**ODST Firefight: staying alive, and what Endure actually requires**
Firefight is where ODST makes the difference between a good shot and a good teammate very obvious. You can kill plenty of Covenant and still ruin the match by spending the squad's lives chasing one weapon across an exposed courtyard.
Before planning achievements, check the edition. **MCC includes ODST Firefight, but it does not include the original game's Firefight achievements.** Halo Support explicitly confirms that distinction. Endure, Be Like Marty, and the original map-specific 200,000-point awards belong to the Xbox 360 achievement list. Playing the backward-compatible 360 game is still playing that edition; launching ODST inside MCC is not.
**Understand the match before picking a corner**
In the original survival structure, five waves make a round and three rounds make a set. A bonus round follows a completed set. Lives are a shared resource. Getting killed repeatedly does not just damage your own score; it reduces the team's room to recover.
The difficulty also changes as skulls accumulate. Tough Luck makes evasive enemies harder to catch with obvious explosive attacks. Catch makes careless positioning around grenades much more dangerous. Black Eye changes stamina recovery: successfully meleeing an enemy is needed to recharge it. Waiting behind a wall as though ordinary recovery still works can leave you wondering why nothing is improving.
Across later sets, Tilt, Famine, and Mythic make weapon choice, ammunition, and enemy durability increasingly important. That is why an opening-round strategy based on spraying whatever you picked up eventually falls apart.
Use the interval between attacks to check four things: remaining lives, ammunition, health packs, and which approach is currently uncovered. Don't wait until a Chieftain is inside your position to discover that both players watching the other entrance have left to collect weapons.
**Give the squad jobs**
A sensible starting arrangement is two players watching the main approaches, one handling dangerous targets with a power weapon, and one covering whichever side is becoming crowded. Those are responsibilities, not permanent stations. If one position collapses, move rather than defending the plan until everyone dies.
Keep a precision weapon available for exposed heads. A charged plasma-pistol shot followed by a headshot is useful against shielded Brutes and preserves heavier ammunition. Rockets are more valuable against a threatening group than against the last isolated Grunt of a wave.
Call out grenades, an approaching hammer Chieftain, and a retreat before taking it. Backing into a teammate's firing lane can turn a manageable enemy into a team kill. If a Chieftain closes the distance, make space and coordinate instead of having everyone attempt a desperate melee together.
Health packs are not individual property. Someone with enough health to survive another hit should not automatically take the nearest pack while a teammate is barely alive.
**Endure: the original Xbox 360 challenge**
**Vidmaster Challenge: Endure requires four-player Heroic Xbox Live co-op and completion of the fourth set.** Reaching the fourth set is not enough. In ordinary wave counting, that means twelve rounds and sixty waves, with the intervening bonus rounds as well.
Alpha Site is a commonly recommended choice because the indoor approaches make it easier to divide responsibilities. That recommendation is not an achievement requirement: the award allows any Firefight map.
Keep all four players in the intended session, use Heroic, and plan enough uninterrupted time to finish. Do not assume a mid-match disconnect is harmless or that an incomplete session can simply be resumed later as the same qualifying run.
At the beginning, resist the temptation to race for kills. Build a sustainable position, learn where supplies are, and keep a fallback route. During later sets, the plasma-pistol/precision combination becomes especially useful as ammunition gets tighter. Collect dropped weapons when the approach is controlled, not while enemies still have a clear shot into your back.
When only a few enemies remain, communicate before finishing the wave. That gives the group a chance to regroup and understand its supplies. It is not a reason to wander away indefinitely or leave a dangerous enemy loose beside the spawn area.
Bonus rounds have their own rules. Deaths there do not consume the ordinary shared life pool, but dying still removes a player from the immediate bonus-round effort. Keep participating rather than treating the round as a free opportunity to throw the match's organization away.
**MCC gives you a different toolbox**
MCC's version adds matchmaking and customizable game variants. Its April 2022 update also added Flood and Elite options to ODST Firefight's wave settings. That makes it useful both for straightforward Covenant survival and for building a very different kind of match.
Read the variant before starting. Lives, enemies, weapons, and stopping conditions can differ. Advice written for an endless classic run should not be presented as the exact rules of every MCC playlist.
If you're practicing, use a manageable difficulty and focus on one problem: holding a doorway, handling shielded Brutes, or surviving without burning the life pool. Once that is reliable, raise the pressure. The point is to become dependable when the match gets difficult, not to copy somebody else's difficulty setting and spend the evening waiting to respawn.
For achievement planning, keep the final distinction simple: **MCC Firefight is worth playing; original ODST Endure still needs the original ODST achievement environment.**
