**Coastal Highway: protect the truck, then hold the building**
*MCC walkthrough. Finale spoilers. Normal, Heroic and Legendary.*
The highway looks like a long vehicle section, but the real job is keeping Dare and the Engineer alive through it. Clearing a route is more important than racing to the next door. If you leave the Olifant behind under fire, reaching the far end of the road by yourself doesn't help.
This is the normal vehicle route. **Déjà Vu** requires four-player Legendary co-op with Iron and no Warthog or Scorpion, so use its separate plan instead of following the vehicle changes below.
**Reach the highway elevator**
Clear the opening street and plaza with Buck and Dare. The elevated Covenant weapons platform is worth dealing with early because it can cover a large part of the approach. Use the pistol against exposed gunners and take cover against the Brutes.
A detached plasma turret can help clear the remaining infantry, but don't carry it so stubbornly that you can't move out of incoming fire. Check the available health and weapons before following the squad into the building.
Let the Engineer power the elevator, then use the doors when prompted. If you're collecting the Dare rocket-launcher achievement, this pause is a convenient time to make the trade after obtaining rockets from the opening courtyard.
**Warthog section: give Buck a shot**
Take the driver's seat and let Buck use the turret. Keep the vehicle angled so he can see the enemies you need removed. Driving straight toward a fuel-rod carrier is not the same thing as giving your gunner a good firing opportunity.
Use movement to avoid incoming projectiles, but don't spin so wildly that Buck never holds a target. If he stops firing during dialogue, stay behind cover or reposition rather than assuming the enemy has become harmless.
At the security doors, wait for the Engineer to open the route. The intervening kiosks provide opportunities to recover health. Clear the immediate danger before getting out; a health pack isn't useful if you are shot down beside the driver door.
**Ghosts and the Gauss upgrade**
When Ghosts become the main threat, avoid driving into several at once. Approach with room to reverse or turn away. Let Buck finish a vehicle before pushing into another firing lane.
Take the Gauss Warthog when it becomes available between the highway gates. Its gun gives Buck a stronger answer to the vehicles and aircraft ahead, but it does not make the driver immune to concentrated fire.
Keep the Olifant in view. Where a Wraith is occupied with the truck, use the opportunity to give Buck a clear line on it. Don't turn that tactic into a claim that the Olifant can absorb unlimited damage. It is an escort target, and leaving threats alive for too long can still end the run.
**Change to the Scorpion**
Board the Scorpion when the route supplies one. Use its range against the Shades, anti-air Wraith and aircraft rather than rolling underneath them before firing.
Check the flanks for Ghosts. One that slips behind the tank can stay there damaging you while the cannon is aimed at a different target. Turn the hull and clear it before continuing.
The later Brutes include heavy weapons. Fire from a controlled distance and keep advancing with Dare once the road is safe. You do not need to stop for every piece of empty wreckage or every aircraft already leaving the area.
The Scarab's attack on the Olifant is a scripted part of the escape. Follow the objective down the off-ramp rather than trying to prevent that story event by repeatedly restarting an otherwise successful section.
**Secure the final building**
Leave the tank and clear the enemies at the building. The interior contains useful weapons and health; check the rocket launcher and shotgun racks, and note where you can retreat for supplies during the defense. There is also a sniper position above if you want that weapon.
The Engineer is now in a fixed defensive position. Keep the approach clear, but don't abandon the building for a distant kill while enemies are moving toward him from another angle.
The incoming groups include Brutes, Jackals and Hunters. Prioritize snipers when they gain a view of your position. Against Hunters, use the squad's distraction to find exposed flesh rather than throwing every grenade into their shields from directly in front.
Save a heavy answer for the later Brutes and Chieftain. Jump Pack Brutes can get behind a position that felt secure against the previous wave, so check the flanks and upper angles between shots.
**Finish the evacuation**
Once the final required enemies are cleared, the friendly Phantom arrives. Move to the pickup and let the extraction complete. If the objective has not advanced, check for a remaining enemy rather than running back up the highway looking for another switch.
On Legendary, the most useful habit is to separate the threats: one vehicle at a time on the road, one exposed sniper at a time at the building. A reckless push can erase several minutes of careful escorting. There is plenty happening here without turning every encounter into a rush.
