**Mombasa Streets: finding the squad without fighting the whole city** *Campaign spoilers. MCC.* The Rookie's part of ODST isn't a straight line of rooms to clear. You're finding evidence of what happened to everyone else. The map helps, but it doesn't remove the need to look up, go inside a building, or notice a small object among a lot of wreckage. **Get out, heal and answer the city** Release the pod's bolts when prompted and climb out. The landing hurts. Use the nearby Optican health station instead of setting off wounded just because the first few enemies look manageable. Take the initial encounters from cover. The pistol handles unprotected heads well; plasma is useful against Brute protection before switching back to a precision weapon. Don't fire the SMG at distant targets until its entire magazine is gone. When the public terminal rings, answer it. This provides the city map and objective information and lets you progress beyond the opening lockdown. The map and the Superintendent's signs are navigation tools, not background decoration. **The first clue is upstairs** Follow the indicated route through the side street and accessible building, across the small courtyard, and into the next building. As the clue signal strengthens, take the stairs. Check the doorway for Jackal snipers rather than running blindly onto their line of fire. Dare's helmet is lodged in a monitor in the room overlooking Tayari Plaza. Inspect it to begin Buck's flashback. Standing in the plaza beneath the window won't activate it; you need to reach the object. After the flashback, you're back with the Rookie. Take a moment to read the next objective instead of heading back through the building as though Buck's daytime route still applies. **The six clues** Use this as a destination checklist, not a demand to ignore the actual open gates on your map: 1. **Recon helmet — Tayari Plaza:** upstairs room overlooking the plaza, Sector 5. 2. **Drone optics — Uplift Reserve:** outside the New Mombasa Uplift building, Sector 9. 3. **Gauss turret — Kizingo Boulevard:** damaged turret on the structure overlooking the boulevard, Sector 4. Search above street level. 4. **Remote detonator — ONI Alpha Site:** near the destroyed approach bridge, Sector 10. 5. **Sniper rifle — NMPD HQ:** hanging overhead from a power line, Sector 3. Looking only at the pavement misses it. 6. **Biofoam canister — Kikowani Station:** at the station entrance, Sector 0. On an initial campaign, progress opens access to more of the city. A sealed sector isn't proof you've missed an invisible jump. Complete the available flashback and check again. The chronological sequence makes the story easiest to follow even where later exploration allows choices. **Fight only the fights you need** Before crossing an open intersection, stop behind a corner and identify the patrol. A distant Jackal with a beam rifle is often a more immediate problem than a loud Brute who hasn't reached you. Keep a ranged weapon. Use the VISR overlay when the lighting makes threats or doors hard to distinguish, then turn it off when glare is making the scene less readable. The city isn't a requirement to kill every Covenant unit before the next clue works. Engineers complicate nearby combat by protecting Covenant troops. If you're working on an Engineer-preservation challenge, avoid explosives near them and take a quieter route when possible. Don't add that restriction halfway through a run and assume earlier kills don't matter. When wounded, find a health station before starting another engagement. Waiting behind cover restores stamina, not every missing point of health. On Heroic or Legendary, that distinction becomes important quickly. **Listen for supply, not just story** Honking cars, ringing terminals and other attention-getting city signals can lead to audio logs. Collecting recordings also opens supply caches. Those caches are useful resupply points rather than optional scenery, particularly if you've been wandering on nearly empty weapons. Don't confuse an audio station with a flashback clue. The recordings tell Sadie's story; the six clues advance the squad's campaign. A full audio sweep deserves its own route and checklist. **The last descent closes off the casual sightseeing** After the final flashback, Dare's distress call sends you underground. Follow the newly marked access point. Its location can differ depending on which late clue you completed last; don't insist the Data Hive entrance must always be at one fixed corner. For an audio-completion run, verify the 29 city recordings before committing to the final underground sequence. For an ordinary story run, follow the beacon and descend. There is no Mombasa Streets par-time clock you need to beat, so you can decide which job you're doing without rushing both.
