**Halo 3 in MCC: the final mission, from the snow to the last jump**
*Full ending spoilers.*
This is the mission called Halo at the end of Halo 3—not the second mission of Combat Evolved. The straightforward route has three parts: reach the control room, survive Spark, then get to the ship. The last part is mostly about keeping the Warthog on ground that still exists.
**1. Take the early collectible detours before the fight**
From the crashed Pelican, follow the snowy pass. Mythic is in a small right-hand side cave near the beginning. The final regular terminal is farther along, reached by a separate beam through a crack in the ice before dropping into the first Flood battle.
Both detours are easier now than after you've committed to the control-room approach. Use the collectible guide for the exact turns. If you're working on par time, leave them for another run.
Choose weapons from the supplies near the opening. A reliable ranged weapon and a close-range backup are more useful than two weapons that leave you helpless against enemies firing from above.
**2. Climb around the control-room structure**
Fight through the Flood in the snowy approach and reach the large Forerunner building. The conventional route climbs around its exterior on successive ramps and ledges. Don't waste time searching for an entrance at the bottom while enemies keep arriving above you.
Advance one elevation at a time. On Heroic and Legendary, look for armed combat forms before crossing open sections. Johnson provides support from higher up, but he doesn't remove every threat for you.
Sentinels initially help against the Flood. Avoid spraying indiscriminately through them while tracking an enemy. Their allegiance later changes with the story; that doesn't mean you need to provoke them now.
**3. Hold outside the upper door**
At the top, the door does not immediately open. Defend the area while Spark waits for the Flood threat to be cleared. Watch both approaches instead of aiming down the first ramp throughout the encounter.
There are automated turrets you can use. Place them where they can cover an approach without blocking your own retreat. Destroy surviving deployed turrets before heading inside: you don't want them firing at you on the return trip after the story turns against Spark.
On higher difficulties, prioritize combat forms carrying explosive weapons. Staying behind cover while they fire is safer than trying to sprint directly at them with a sword. Once the defense is complete and the door opens, follow Johnson inside.
**4. Spark and the Spartan Laser**
After the cutscene, avoid Spark's beam and knockback attacks. Keep enough room behind you that being pushed doesn't send you over an edge.
Wait for Johnson's intervention. When he offers the Spartan Laser, take it and land three successful charged shots on Spark. Keep your aim on him through the charging period; beginning the charge while looking at him doesn't help if the shot fires after you've dragged the reticle away.
This isn't a fight where you need to spend all your ordinary ammunition trying to force the next phase. Use the scripted weapon opportunity, then allow the scene and activation sequence to finish.
**5. Find Johnson's Warthog**
Leave through the control-room approach. Outside, take the snowy route to the right and follow the elevated path around the area toward the next passage. Push through the Flood and Sentinels in the intervening rooms and corridors until you emerge at the Warthog.
Watch carrier forms in the enclosed sections. Triggering one directly beside yourself can turn a manageable escape into a checkpoint reload.
For an ordinary completion, take the Warthog. The four-player Ghost challenge is a separate achievement run, not a requirement for finishing the campaign.
**6. Drive the route, not a straight line to the marker**
Follow the waypoint direction while looking at the actual road. Markers show where you're headed; they do not promise intact ground between you and that point.
Keep moving, but make controlled turns. Avoid carrier forms, missing panels, and the edges of breaking platforms. If you roll, recover immediately if it is still safe; don't stand beside the vehicle fighting enemies while the route disappears.
In solo play, let the Arbiter handle the turret while you concentrate on driving. At the final approach to Forward Unto Dawn, line up the ramp and maintain speed for the jump into the ship.
There isn't a Maw-style visible countdown governing this escape. The collapsing route is the danger. That is not permission to stop indefinitely: the floor can disappear while you're taking your time.
The optional talking Grunt is just before the final jump, off to the right. Save that stop for a dedicated cleanup attempt. For this run, keep your wheels pointed toward the ship and finish the fight.
