**Halo 3 in MCC: Cortana's achievements without using the wrong par score**
*Mission spoilers.*
Cortana is a mission where knowing the route matters more than adding another difficult skull. Before chasing points or a fast finish, learn the three landmarks that keep the level manageable: the Pelican chamber, the bridge-shaped room, and the reactor.
**The checklist**
- **The Key:** complete Cortana. MCC allows Easy for this completion achievement.
- **Making History:** finish below **15:00**.
- **Orpheus:** beat **17,000 points** in MCC.
- **Skulltaker Halo 3: Tilt:** collect the physical skull.
- **The Coin's Fault:** activate the special terminal beneath the bridge-shaped room.
The original Xbox 360 version used a 15,000-point Orpheus target. MCC uses 17,000. Don't finish a run just over the older number and assume something is broken.
**First pass: completion and collectibles**
Use Normal or harder from Mission Start if you're collecting Tilt. The skull is above the bridge-shaped room; the terminal is beneath its central floor. Both come before the tall climbing chamber and Cortana's prison.
Take the time to find the onward passage behind the far wall before leaving. That same room is part of the escape route, and recognizing it later saves a lot of unnecessary wandering.
The terminal achievement doesn't require completing the entire mission, but a completion pass does. After rescuing Cortana, return to the reactor, operate the central control, destroy the three exposed pylons, and use the newly opened escape route. Boarding the Pelican at the end is the finish, not the rescue cutscene.
**Making History: remove the detours**
Use a separate Easy run if time is the only target. Start at the beginning, enable the mission timer, and leave collectible climbs for another attempt. The achievement requires the full mission, not merely the last rally point.
Don't turn every room into a cleanup operation. Remove enemies blocking the path, take cover when necessary, and move through once you have a workable opening. Conversely, don't rush blind into a sword carrier because you're watching the clock instead of the doorway.
The three places worth rehearsing are the far-side exit from the bridge room, the route up the multilevel chamber, and the new hole that opens after the reactors are destroyed. Confusing the exit with a dead end costs more time than a careful approach to a fight.
Finish with a margin below fifteen minutes. A run that barely scrapes the boundary is a poor place to rely on rounding.
**Orpheus: points without making the mission miserable**
Choose a difficulty you can finish consistently and enable scoring so you can see what is happening. Heroic gives more scoring opportunity than Easy, but repeated deaths and a very slow finish can wipe out the benefit.
Catch is a less intrusive modifier against Flood than it is against grenade-throwing Covenant. That doesn't make every skull free: Famine affects your ammunition, Mythic makes enemies tougher, and Tilt changes weapon effectiveness. Add modifiers you understand instead of copying a long list and discovering halfway through that your loadout no longer works well.
Use a ranged weapon to remove the wall-mounted attackers and a close-range option for combat forms. Keep ammunition for the return trip. The reactor room is not the end of the fighting, and a high score that you can't carry to extraction doesn't finish the achievement.
Don't use a zero-score modifier for a par-score attempt. Check the mission setup warnings before launching, and verify the recorded result after completion rather than relying only on the number you briefly saw during combat.
**The terminal distinction matters**
The Coin's Fault contributes to MCC's eight-terminal **No Stone Unturned** checklist. It isn't one of the seven conventional text terminals associated with the original game's Marathon Man achievement. If your MCC terminal cleanup is one short, this is a sensible place to check.
