**Halo 3 in MCC: Tsavo Highway achievements, including the two very different vehicle challenges** *Mission spoilers. The Master Chief Collection version.* Tsavo Highway gives you a whole road full of vehicles, then asks you to finish it without getting into one. It also has a separate achievement for taking four vehicles to the broken highway. Those are two different runs. Trying to combine them just creates a problem you didn't need. There are six fixed targets here. The awkward one is **Mind the Gap**, because its printed description and the behavior players have documented aren't the same thing. **The checklist** - **The Road:** finish Tsavo Highway. Easy counts in MCC. - **Highway Robbery:** beat the **20-minute** par time. - **Cavalier:** beat the **21,000-point** MCC par score. - **Skulltaker Halo 3: Tough Luck:** find and pick up Tough Luck on Normal or harder. - **Begins with a Single Step:** finish the level without entering a vehicle. - **Mind the Gap:** the description specifies four vehicles, Legendary and **Cowbell, Catch, Thunderstorm, Mythic and Tough Luck**. Read the distinction below before setting up the attempt. There is one campaign skull and **no terminal** here. The original Xbox 360 Cavalier uses 15,000 points, and its version of The Road requires Normal or higher. Neither restriction should replace MCC's requirements. **Begins with a Single Step: stay out of more than the driver's seat** Easy is a sensible setup. Start from the beginning and leave the vehicles in the opening garage alone. Treat the restriction as **no vehicle interaction that puts you into a seat or boarding position**, not just “don't drive.” That means no passenger ride, no Warthog gunner position, no hijacking and no mounting a Wraith to destroy it. Avoid the circular Covenant gun emplacements as well. Player reports also warn about turret pickups, so the conservative route is ordinary handheld weapons throughout. There are conflicting historical reports about boarding, but there's no reason to gamble the whole run on whether a particular interaction is currently forgiven. Keep your feet on the ground and destroy vehicles from a distance when necessary. Take a precision weapon for exposed infantry and keep a second option for Brutes or vehicles. Use cover between shots rather than trying to match a Warthog's pace on foot. At the first blue barrier, walk through and disable the generator; you don't need a vehicle to open the road. The broken highway has an on-foot crossing. Later, use the weapons and cover around the Marine defense, then continue toward the elevated road and final blockade. Clear the threats controlling the last approach and destroy the final barrier's generator to finish. Don't accidentally press the interaction button on a nearby turret when you meant to reload. If you enter something by mistake, don't assume an ordinary checkpoint reload has definitely restored eligibility. A clean restart is less ambiguous than finishing another twenty minutes without knowing whether the restriction still holds. This is not a no-shooting or no-deaths challenge. You can fight, use grenades and take your time. Its special restriction is the vehicle use. **Mind the Gap: four vehicles, not necessarily four players** **The printed setup is Legendary with those five named skulls.** That is the setup to use if you want to follow the description literally. However, community guides and repeated reports—including reports in 2026—document unlocking it on **Easy without the prescribed skulls**. That is reported game behavior, not an officially rewritten requirement or a guarantee for every attempt. The same reports consistently favor **four Warthogs**; Choppers have produced mixed results. Solo is possible. Four people make moving the vehicles easier, but four players are not the target being counted. For a straightforward vehicle collection route: 1. Bring Warthogs out of the starting garage before progressing away from it. Don't leave yourself dependent on returning through a closed starting area. 2. Recover additional usable Warthogs along the opening route. Keep four intact and move them forward in stages if playing alone. 3. Clear the first shield-blocked tunnel encounter before parking the convoy close to it. A small building near that encounter contains a portable gravity lift; collect it if using the jump approach. 4. Continue through the tunnel and along the highway to the concrete barriers before the larger broken span. 5. Use the lift at the barriers to help vehicles over the obstruction and toward the far side. Line up carefully rather than throwing all four into a pile. There is another important detail: guides document the trigger counting vehicles driven **beneath the broken bridge to the far wall**, without requiring a clean landing on the upper roadway. Simply dropping a vehicle into the gap isn't the same as driving it far enough forward. If a fourth Warthog has arrived but nothing registers, inspect their positions rather than immediately assuming you need a fifth vehicle. Keep this separate from the foot-only achievement and the time run. Don't destroy occupied friendly vehicles or attack Marines to organize the convoy. Moving the spare Warthogs yourself is slower, but it avoids turning a collection task into a fight with your own side. **Highway Robbery: under twenty minutes** Easy with the timer visible is a practical first attempt. You can use vehicles freely for this award, and you don't need the five-skull Mind the Gap setup. The biggest avoidable delay is trying to preserve the opening Warthog at all costs. At the broken span, get out and use the normal foot route if a vehicle jump isn't already something you can do reliably. A basic par-time attempt doesn't need a physics trick. Know the difference between a fight that advances the mission and a vehicle you can leave behind. After the major vehicle field, your destination is the road leading up toward the final blockades. Don't spend the remaining clock circling an empty patch of ground looking for something else to kill. Save the skull detour and four-Warthog transport job for other runs. Complete the mission in one session and check the recorded time afterward rather than treating a midmission timer as the final result. **Cavalier: twenty-one thousand, not the original game's score** For scoring, use the current **21,000-point** target. Display your score and choose a difficulty and modifiers you can actually survive. Heroic is an option, not a requirement; starting with manageable fights is more useful than immediately assembling a miserable skull combination. Vehicle combat gives this mission plenty of opportunities, but getting destroyed in the middle of the road can undo a good stretch of fighting. Break sightlines with Wraiths, deal with exposed gunners, and avoid parking where multiple enemy vehicles can attack together. Don't automatically reuse the five Mind the Gap skulls. That combination exists for a different challenge. More modifiers are only helpful if their penalties don't turn the run into repeated deaths and slow recoveries. Keep moving between productive fights, protect allies from careless explosives and finish with the required score still intact. A par-time route that skips most combat and a scoring route do not have to be identical. **Tough Luck: a short separate stop** Start from **Mission Start on Normal or harder**. After the first shield tunnel, look left along the highway for the large pipeline. Use its access point and the support below, then reach the rock shelf to the left with the skull. The companion collectible guide gives the full jump sequence. Pick up the physical skull. Turning Tough Luck on in the menu isn't the same thing, and you don't have to carry it to Voi. I'd split this mission into a Normal completion-and-skull run, an Easy foot-only run, a dedicated four-vehicle attempt, and then time or score cleanup. You might combine some of those comfortably, but none of them needs to become an all-at-once challenge.
