Halo 2 in MCC: a campaign achievement plan without trying to do everything in one run Halo 2: Anniversary in The Master Chief Collection. Some mission and collectible spoilers. Halo 2 has enough going on without making every mission a speedrun, a skull hunt and a deathless attempt at the same time. I would get the campaign completion sorted first, keep a proper record of the collectibles, and then go back for the challenges that need their own settings. This is a roadmap for the main campaign achievement groups, not a promise that following it clears every Halo 2 achievement in MCC. Multiplayer, individual Easter eggs and some mission-specific challenges still need separate attention. It also isn't the achievement list for the old Windows Vista release. **First, get a complete difficulty record** The full-campaign difficulty awards are: - **Big Green Style:** Easy. - **Warrior:** Normal. - **Hero:** Heroic. - **Legendary Anniversary:** Legendary. Higher-difficulty completion also satisfies the lower difficulty awards. Pick the difficulty you actually want to play rather than treating four complete playthroughs as mandatory. Each main combat mission has its own completion achievement too. Keep a checklist from Cairo Station through The Great Journey, and inspect the campaign's opening entries as well if a full-campaign award hasn't registered. Beating Tartarus doesn't prove every earlier mission was recorded at the difficulty you needed. For the first pass, leave optional modifiers off unless you're deliberately working on a requirement that calls for one. It's much easier to troubleshoot a missing completion when you know exactly what settings you used. While playing, switch between classic and Anniversary graphics on each level, then finish the level. **Tighten Up The Graphics** requires completing the campaign's levels having seen both versions. Don't just switch graphics, quit immediately and assume the completion condition is covered. A useful checklist has separate columns for difficulty, both graphics seen, skull, terminal, toy, par time and par score. These are separate records, not one big completion tick. **The collectible totals: 15 skulls, 13 terminals, eight toys** **Trophy Collector** is the hidden-skull collection award. These are the fifteen physical pickups, not every modifier available in MCC's skull menu: - The Armory: That's Just... Wrong. - Cairo Station: Thunderstorm. - Outskirts: Blind and IWHBYD. - Metropolis: Catch. - The Arbiter: Grunt Birthday Party. - The Oracle: Famine. - Delta Halo: Envy. - Regret: Assassins. - Sacred Icon: Mythic. - Quarantine Zone: Sputnik. - Gravemind: Anger. - Uprising: Ghost. - High Charity: Iron. - The Great Journey: Black Eye. Plan the skull hunt on Legendary. Blind is an exception that can be collected on a lower difficulty, but that doesn't make the whole set a lower-difficulty collection run. Assassins is another easy source of confusion: finding an object present on a lower setting is not the same as satisfying its MCC achievement requirement. Use Legendary for that award. The Armory's skull has its own waiting requirement, and IWHBYD has a spawn complication. Read those individual routes before starting rather than assuming every skull is simply sitting beside the normal objective. For IWHBYD in particular, don't treat a repeated community ritual as a guaranteed spawn procedure. **Walking Encyclopedia** covers the thirteen terminals found across the combat missions, one per mission from Cairo Station onward. Activate them in Anniversary graphics. These can be done on an easier difficulty; you don't need to fight through Legendary just to hear a terminal. Extra unlocked terminal material does not mean there are fifteen hidden terminal locations to hunt down. **Toybox** requires eight Anniversary toys. The mission checklist is: | Mission | Toy | |---|---| | Delta Halo | Master Chief | | Regret | Prophet of Regret | | Sacred Icon | Arbiter | | Quarantine Zone | Tartarus | | Gravemind | Cortana | | Uprising | Librarian | | High Charity | Rampant Cortana | | The Great Journey | Didact | The toys can be collected on any difficulty and are Anniversary collectibles. They aren't skulls, and their routes can take you well away from the normal fight. A terminal pickup doesn't tell you whether you got the toy in the same mission. **Use the playlist menu for playlist achievements** **Seconds** is for completing one Halo 2 playlist. **Connoisseur** asks for three. Choose three different Halo 2 playlists and check their completion records as you go; there's no reason to risk repeating one you already finished when planning the count. Launch and continue the actual playlist. Selecting roughly the same missions individually is not equivalent to finishing it through the playlist system. If you stop partway through, resume that playlist rather than moving to ordinary mission selection and expecting its progress to follow. **Back for More** is specifically the Halo 2 LASO Campaign playlist. Leave that as its own project. Collecting every skull, manually switching on modifiers, or finishing an ordinary Legendary campaign does not replace its playlist requirement. **Separate score runs from fast runs** **Going Nowhere Fast** covers the campaign's par times. **Arcade Owner** covers its par scores. Each also has individual mission awards beneath it. Those goals can overlap, but they don't always suit the same route. A fast bypass might save several minutes while leaving most of the available kills behind. A careful scoring attempt might spend time fighting enemies you'd normally avoid. Check the current mission's displayed target and your selected modifiers before starting. Don't build a run around a score threshold copied from an old guide without checking it against MCC. For a scoring attempt, enable the scoring display and avoid zero-multiplier assistance. Pay attention when the game warns that a skull disables achievements. Halo Support recommends finishing a speedrunning or scoring mission in a single session because quitting and resuming it across sessions can cause unlock issues. That's about the individual attempt, not an instruction to clear the whole campaign without a break. **Monopolized** is a different timing goal: a cumulative Legendary campaign total under three hours. Easy par-time completions don't satisfy it, and merely collecting all the individual par-time awards doesn't guarantee that Legendary total. Keep it separate from the general cleanup list. **Pick the special challenge before loading the mission** A challenge can have a requirement much narrower than “finish the level.” For example, **Starved For Shields** requires a Heroic or Legendary completion with **only Streaking** active. Adding a convenient helper changes the setup. **Demon** requires completing a campaign level without dying on Normal or harder. Read the exact MCC wording, decide what that run is for, and check the settings before starting. Save the unrelated detours for another attempt. Losing a clean challenge run because you decided to improvise a collectible jump near the end isn't worth it. Finally, check what actually registered before repeating a whole campaign. Halo Support documents delayed campaign and playlist unlocks; save your completion evidence and follow its troubleshooting guidance if an award stays missing. This plan should leave you with a short, specific cleanup list—not another full playthrough because nobody wrote down which mission was missing.
