Halo 2: Uprising achievement guide — MCC
**Mission and collectible spoilers. This is Halo 2 inside The Master Chief Collection, not the separate Windows Vista achievement list.**
Uprising is a good mission to split into a quick completion run and a slower collection run. The thing most likely to waste your time isn't the length of the level. It's reaching the little Grunt near the beginning, finding he won't say anything, and wondering which of the dozen conflicting instructions online you're supposed to follow.
Let's separate the requirements from the troubleshooting.
**The seven mission targets**
- **Uprising:** finish the mission. Easy counts in MCC.
- **No Man's Land:** finish below the **15-minute** par time.
- **The Hype Is Real:** beat the **9,000-point** par score.
- **Cowardly Grunt:** listen to the hidden Grunt's special dialogue.
- **My Work is Done:** collect the Librarian toy.
- **Scholar:** activate terminal **11**.
- **Skulltaker Halo 2: Ghost:** find and pick up the Ghost skull on **Legendary**.
The current score target is 9,000, not the old 25,000 figure you may see in older material. The Ghost skull is the difficulty-specific collectible here; don't turn that into a Legendary requirement for the terminal or toy.
**Cowardly Grunt: leave this one alive**
Follow the early route into the structure. In the room where you arrive on an upper ledge overlooking a lower fighting area, the special Grunt is tucked beneath the ledge, cowering beside dead Grunts.
Clear the hostile Brutes in this room, protect the Grunt from stray fire, then approach him and let him finish speaking. Finding his position isn't enough: the achievement is tied to hearing his dialogue.
I would do this with no optional skulls enabled. That's a straightforward starting setup, not a claim that every skull blocks the achievement. In particular, huge explosions from something like Scarab are a bad fit when the whole point is to keep one small character alive.
Easy is eligible. Older comments insisting on Normal or harder conflict with later successful Easy reports and the achievement reference. Normal is a perfectly reasonable retry setting, but it isn't an established requirement.
**If he stays silent:**
- Check for surviving enemies, including a Brute that may have moved out of the room.
- Don't confuse the two dead Grunts with the living one you're looking for.
- Give the dialogue a chance to start once the fight is over.
- If needed, restart the mission without optional modifiers and clear the opening enemies as well as the room itself.
That last step is a troubleshooting route, not a universal kill-everything condition. Some players have triggered the dialogue after skipping the opening fights; others report needing a fuller clear. There isn't reliable evidence for turning all those anecdotes into a mandatory recipe involving a particular difficulty, IWHBYD, or a deathless run.
**My Work is Done: the Librarian above the canyon**
At the beginning of **“Step Aside, Let The Man Through,”** leave the building and look for the climbable rocks beside the cliff edge. The route goes up to the high cliff rim, not down through the normal fighting route.
Use the rocks and a grenade-assisted jump to reach the top. Sputnik makes the climb easier, but the achievement doesn't require that skull. Follow the rim to the right until you're overlooking the small Jackal encampment. The toy sits in a recessed spot off to the right.
Classic graphics help show the collision geometry while climbing. Switch to **Anniversary graphics** at the destination and walk over the Librarian toy to collect it. Merely seeing it from the cliff isn't the trigger.
Any difficulty works. Save this detour for a collection attempt rather than spending your par-time margin repeatedly trying the jump.
**Scholar, then the Ghost skull**
These two are later in the mission, around the Brute encampment and weapons stockpile. They're not up beside the Librarian.
After the sniper valley, work your way to the elevated ledge leading into the pair of rooms, one of which contains the weapons cache. **Before going inside**, check behind the pillars to the right for terminal 11. Use Anniversary graphics, approach it, and activate it for Scholar. Looking at the screen without interacting doesn't count.
Next, pass through the weapons room into the L-shaped space beyond. Turn back toward the doorway you just used: the **Ghost skull is on the ledge above it**.
For its achievement, make this a Legendary attempt and physically pick up the skull. Switching Ghost on in the mission menu does not substitute for finding it.
A grenade jump can reach the ledge. Bringing a movable crate from the weapons room gives you a higher starting position; co-op players can also use a teammate as a step. Don't throw repeated grenades while standing at low shields. Recover, set up the approach, and make a controlled attempt instead of turning the collectible into a string of avoidable deaths.
**No Man's Land: use the normal route first**
For a dedicated time attempt, select Easy, leave optional modifiers off, and enable the timer. Aim comfortably below 15 minutes rather than trying to finish on the exact boundary.
Know the route through the opening building before starting. When you reach the outdoor vehicle section, a Ghost helps cover the canyon quickly. You don't need to stop for every enemy, but a sniper covering your path is a better use of a few seconds than another death.
Leave the cliff climb, terminal stop, and skull jump for another run. At the late weapons cache, stock up before the final vehicle fighting if you need it, then keep moving toward the mission exit.
There are aggressive skips for this level, but you do not need an out-of-bounds route just to attempt the 15-minute target. A familiar, repeatable path is more useful than copying the first few seconds of a glitch and getting stranded somewhere the mission won't finish.
**The Hype Is Real: this time, fight**
The time route and score route pull in opposite directions. Racing past a canyon full of enemies may produce a great completion time and a poor score.
Turn scoring on and choose a difficulty you can handle consistently. Higher difficulties improve scoring opportunities, but repeated deaths can undo that advantage. Normal or Heroic is a sensible starting point depending on your comfort with the encounters; neither is a special requirement written into this achievement.
Use cover to pick off snipers, clear the Brute groups, and deal with vehicle threats without needlessly exposing yourself. Watch the actual score instead of assuming that reaching the final area means you've earned enough. Finish with a buffer above 9,000, and check the result at the end.
Keep score-disabling helper modifiers out of this attempt. A setup used to reach a collectible isn't automatically suitable for a scored completion.
Once those runs are done, check all seven entries individually. Finishing Uprising doesn't prove the Grunt spoke, and walking past the weapons room doesn't prove you picked up the skull above its doorway.
