Halo 2 in MCC: Gravemind achievements, Cortana's toy and the opening-cutscene secret Gravemind mission and collectible spoilers. Halo 2: Anniversary in The Master Chief Collection. If you're coming here for the developer cameo, don't skip the opening. You can get that achievement before fighting your way through High Charity, provided you've selected Legendary and are watching in classic graphics. It isn't a reward for surviving the opening room. The rest takes more planning. Gravemind is long enough that I wouldn't turn a first collectible visit into a twenty-minute speed attempt. Get the locations straight, work out the prison route, and then come back for the record you actually need. **Seven mission-specific targets** - **Gravemind:** complete the mission. Any difficulty works in MCC. - **Force of Will:** beat the **20-minute** par time. - **Official Business:** beat the **11,000-point** par score. - **Knowledgable:** activate **Terminal 10**. That's the achievement's spelling. - **Skulltaker Halo 2: Anger:** collect Anger **on Legendary**. - **Don't Make a Girl a Promise:** collect the Cortana toy. - **He's Running a Marathon...:** spot the developer in the opening cutscene **on Legendary, in classic mode**. There are also useful opportunities for **Go Ape Shiv** and **Silent but Deadly**, covered below. Neither is exclusive to Gravemind, so don't confuse them with another hidden collectible you have to find here. **He's Running a Marathon...: let the opening play** Launch Gravemind from the beginning on **Legendary** and switch to **classic graphics** for the opening cinematic. Watch rather than skipping ahead. The cameo appears during the High Charity portion of that opening. The simple approach is to leave the whole cinematic in classic mode. You don't have to time a graphics switch to a particular camera cut, move a reticle onto the developer or press an interaction button. You also don't need to complete the mission afterward to satisfy this particular condition. Anniversary's version of the scene isn't a substitute. The corresponding remastered cameo doesn't fulfill the classic-mode requirement. If the secret is your only reason for loading Legendary, check its status after the scene rather than assuming you now owe the game an entire Legendary completion. A checkpoint that starts with Chief already fighting has passed the opening you're trying to watch. Start the mission again for this attempt. **Cortana's toy and Anger share a detour** The toy can be collected on **any difficulty**, but use **Legendary** if you want the nearby Anger skull achievement during the same visit. Keep Anniversary graphics available for the toy: it doesn't appear in the classic presentation. After freeing both groups of Marines, continue to the **first outdoor garden area**, with dirt, vegetation, rocks and a purple ledge curving around its perimeter. This is the first Valley of Tears, not a later outdoor area that looks similar. Clear immediate threats before climbing. From the entrance, the route is toward the **right-hand side**, up the rocky slope onto the raised metal perimeter. Follow the curving ledge around toward its far end. An alternative landmark is the exit doorway: the perimeter route carries you above that exit as you follow it around. The Cortana toy is at the end of this elevated route, near the Anger skull location. In Anniversary mode, walk over the toy to collect it. That earns **Don't Make a Girl a Promise** and contributes to the eight-item **Toybox** achievement. It isn't the Rampant Cortana toy from High Charity, which is a different mission and a different collectible. On the Legendary skull visit, watch for the **cloaked fuel-rod Grunt** near the end of the ledge. Don't run straight into its firing position while staring at the collectible. Deal with the threat, approach the floating skull and use the pickup interaction for **Skulltaker Halo 2: Anger**. The toy and skull need separate collection actions. Walking over the toy doesn't claim Anger, and enabling the Anger modifier in the menu doesn't collect its physical skull. You don't need that modifier enabled for the pickup achievement. **Terminal 10 is in that same garden, not on the toy ledge** For **Knowledgable**, search the wall near the **far-side exit of the first Valley of Tears**. The terminal is past the exit doorway along the wall, behind the sniper position, rather than at the end of the elevated collectible ledge. Use Anniversary graphics and interact with the panel. Any difficulty works. A useful confirmation of the exit is the adjoining interior with a descending ramp and curved supports; if you've entered it without finding the terminal, turn back and check the garden wall before continuing. The companion collectible guide covers the skull and terminal in more detail. Because all three items are in this area, check their individual achievement names before leaving instead of treating one successful pickup as proof you found everything. **Go Ape Shiv: the finishing blow matters** This general Halo 2 achievement asks you to **kill an enraged, berserk Brute using melee**. Gravemind is a practical place to do it, and Easy is eligible. Find a pair of Brutes and kill one. Watch the survivor's behavior: you want the weapon-dropping, charging berserk state, not just a Brute shooting angrily from cover. Finish that enraged enemy with melee. Don't keep firing through the charge and accidentally make the last hit a bullet. Likewise, a grenade or another combatant killing the Brute first doesn't meet your melee condition. An Energy Sword or a Brute Shot's melee attack can work, but neither is a required weapon. I would do this on Easy rather than deliberately invite a charging Brute into melee range during a good Legendary run. You only need the qualifying kill, not a whole melee-only mission. **Silent but Deadly: an optional prison attempt** The requirement is **seven consecutive kills from behind without being spotted**. Gravemind's prison area provides sleeping Grunts and guards facing away, making it a documented place to attempt this on Easy or Normal. When the lift drops you into the prison section, inspect the guards before attacking. Approach the Brute from behind, then work around the perimeter toward sleeping Grunts. Watch the patrolling Jackals: they can spot you or discover a body and alert the room. Wait until a patrol is facing away before dropping toward it or crossing its sightline. Count qualifying kills rather than assuming the room contains exactly the arrangement shown in somebody else's run. Difficulty and patrol movement can change how the approach plays out. If enemies wake and confront you, don't assume ordinary combat kills will preserve the streak. Envy is a documented optional aid for this attempt, giving Chief camouflage. It isn't a requirement, and camouflage doesn't replace the need to approach from behind. This is an opportunity to attempt the achievement, not a promise that following a fixed seven-enemy script will always succeed. **Time and score: don't confuse either with Legendary completion** **Force of Will** allows any difficulty. You don't have to beat Gravemind on Legendary in twenty minutes just because the cameo and Anger require that setting. Use an easier difficulty for a dedicated par-time run, leave the garden detour out, and know how to navigate the prison lifts before starting the clock. For **Official Business**, turn scoring on and aim above **11,000** at the completed mission's result. This is not a 25,000-point target. Pick a difficulty and scoring modifiers you can handle consistently; repeatedly dying for a larger multiplier isn't automatically an improvement. Protect the rescued Marines from your own explosives, use cover against distant fire and keep moving once the necessary fighting is done. An approach that skips encounters for time may not provide the points you need. Finish each record attempt in one session, with zero-multiplier helpers disabled, and check the final record. I'd separate the prison stealth experiment from both records. There's enough to do here without making a single alerted Grunt cost you every goal at once.
