Halo 2 in MCC: Quarantine Zone achievements, the Scorpion and Tartarus toy
Quarantine Zone route and collectible spoilers. Halo 2: Anniversary in The Master Chief Collection.
There's an achievement here for putting the Arbiter behind the controls of a human tank. That's a good excuse to take a Scorpion through the Flood, but don't destroy the tank you're planning to steal. Getting onto its hull to attack the driver and actually getting into the driver's seat are two different actions.
The other easily missed stop is at the opposite end of the mission. Once the gondola reaches the Library, don't immediately follow the route into the ending. The Tartarus toy is above the exit ramp, off to the right.
**Seven targets for this visit**
- **Quarantine Zone:** complete the mission, on any difficulty in MCC.
- **Hot Zone:** finish below the **15-minute** par time.
- **The Doctor Is In:** finish above the **7,000-point** par score.
- **Delighted:** activate **Terminal 9** inside the crashed Sentinel facility.
- **Skulltaker Halo 2: Sputnik:** collect the physical Sputnik skull **on Legendary**.
- **Chieftain of the Brutes:** collect the Tartarus toy.
- **Six Pedals, Four Directions:** drive a Scorpion while playing as the Arbiter.
Six Pedals isn't worded as a Quarantine Zone-only achievement, but this mission gives you a straightforward opportunity. There is no requirement to finish the whole level in the tank, preserve a particular Scorpion or kill a fixed number of enemies with it.
The current score target is 7,000, not the older 25,000 figure you may encounter in launch-era advice. The name is **The Doctor Is In**; Fists of Fury is Regret's score achievement, even though some mission tables have reused that label incorrectly.
**Six Pedals, Four Directions: steal it without destroying it**
For a dedicated attempt, Easy is fine. Take the starting Spectre into the building and follow the hall into the first large combat area. Descend along the right-hand ramp. In the lower corner near the cliff is a Flood-controlled Scorpion.
Approach carefully enough to keep the vehicle intact. Get out of your transport, move close to the tank and use the boarding interaction. While on the hull, melee the occupant rather than planting an explosive that could destroy the thing you need.
Once the driver is dead, get off the tank and interact again to take the **driver's position**. Move it forward. The achievement is for driving as the Arbiter, not merely hanging onto the vehicle during a hijack.
If that first tank is destroyed in the surrounding battle, the level has another opportunity, including an unoccupied Scorpion farther along. You haven't invalidated the achievement by missing the first one. The condition doesn't specify which tank, require a hijack or demand that you started the level in it.
In co-op, don't assume standing beside your partner's tank fulfills your own driving requirement. Take the controls yourself if you're the player still missing the achievement.
**Chieftain of the Brutes: stop after the gondola docks**
The toy works on **any difficulty** and is visible in **Anniversary graphics**. It's a collectible, not a reward for fighting Tartarus. There is no Tartarus boss fight to complete on this mission.
For the most straightforward documented grenade-jump route, enable **Sputnik before launching the mission** and keep a grenade for the end. Picking up the physical Sputnik skull at the opening does not switch on its modifier mid-run in MCC. The menu setting is already available separately.
Fight through the mission and complete the gondola journey. Once it has stopped at the Library:
1. Face the destination and move toward the **front-right side of the gondola**.
2. Identify the high ledge above the sloping wall to the **right of the exit ramp**. That's where you're going, not along the normal corridor into the Library.
3. With Sputnik enabled, move onto the exit ramp and use its flatter middle section as your grenade-jump starting point.
4. Boost up onto the ledge above the sloped wall. Recover your shields before attempting a jump, and line up the landing rather than throwing grenades while still choosing a direction.
5. With Anniversary graphics active, find the Tartarus toy and walk over it.
A **non-Sputnik route is also documented**: use the small upper lip or railing on the gondola's front-right edge as the higher starting position, then grenade-jump toward the sloped wall's upper ledge. Sputnik is therefore not an unlock requirement. It changes which jump is practical; don't apply the ramp instructions unchanged and expect the same height with it disabled.
This is a bad place to spend your last grenade experimentally during a time attempt. Plan it as a collection stop. If you miss the ledge, use an earlier checkpoint only if you actually have one; there's no guarantee the game saved at the exact spot you wanted.
Collecting this toy contributes to **Toybox**, which requires all eight Halo 2 toys. Finish checking the ledge before entering the ending route, because completing the level doesn't automatically award the collectible.
**Sputnik first, terminal in the middle**
For **Skulltaker Halo 2: Sputnik**, start on Legendary and turn around at the opening. Use the rocky tunnel behind the friendly Elite. Outside, leave the bridge to your right and follow the narrow cliff shelf to its end, where the skull floats. Approach and use the pickup interaction. No vehicle or grenade boost is needed for this detour.
**Delighted** comes later, in the first large room inside the crashed Sentinel manufacturing facility. Search the **lower floor beneath the far platform** for the terminal and activate it in Anniversary graphics. Any difficulty works.
That terminal is before the late gondola trip. If you've reached the toy's docking platform, you've passed it. The gondola controls aren't Terminal 9. The companion collectible guide covers both the opening skull detour and the wreckage room more fully.
**Hot Zone and The Doctor Is In need different priorities**
For **Hot Zone**, use a difficulty you're comfortable moving through quickly; Easy is eligible. Leave collectible detours out of the plan. A tank provides protection and firepower, but taking every available fight isn't automatically the fastest route. Learn the transitions between vehicle areas, the wreckage and the gondola before trying to force a time result.
Don't stop the clock mentally when you board the gondola. You still have its journey, its fighting and the final route after docking. Complete the mission and check the recorded time.
For **The Doctor Is In**, enable scoring and aim above 7,000 at the final result. Use the tank's range to handle exposed enemies without charging into several threats at once. Keep allied Elites out of your blast radius, and avoid throwing away a good run by taking unnecessary risks after you've built a useful score.
A route that bypasses nearly all combat might work for time and fail for points. Start with a difficulty you can finish cleanly rather than assuming a larger multiplier compensates for repeated deaths. Check the score as you go, but judge success from the completed mission's result.
Keep zero-multiplier assistance off for time and score records. Collectible helper settings aren't a blanket permission for every achievement. Finish each record attempt in one session, and treat the toy jump as a separate job if the clock is already tight.
