Halo 2: Quarantine Zone — Sputnik and the terminal inside the wreckage
Halo 2: Anniversary in The Master Chief Collection. Mission-route spoilers.
There are two very different stops here. Sputnik is practically at the beginning, but behind you rather than along the route your allies are taking. Terminal 9 comes later, inside the crashed Sentinel facility. **It is not on the gondola or at the end of the gondola ride.**
Get those two landmarks straight before starting and you can avoid doing most of Quarantine Zone twice. The Tartarus toy near the end is a separate collectible, not the terminal covered here.
**Choose the difficulty for what you're missing**
Start on **Legendary** if you want Sputnik. The MCC achievement is **Skulltaker Halo 2: Sputnik**, and Legendary is part of its requirement. You don't need to enable the Sputnik modifier to collect the physical skull. Its menu setting and its collection achievement are different things.
Terminal 9 earns **Delighted** and works on any difficulty. If Sputnik is already collected and you're only returning for that terminal, use an easier setting if you prefer. This mission has enough vehicles shooting at one another without making a simple cleanup visit harder than it needs to be.
Use Anniversary graphics to find and activate the terminal. If you're looking at the correct wall in classic graphics, switch presentations before deciding it isn't there.
**Sputnik: turn around before taking a vehicle**
At the beginning of the mission, don't immediately follow the vehicle route. Turn back toward the area behind your starting position and look for the small rocky tunnel near the friendly Elite. Go through that tunnel on foot.
It opens into another outdoor area. Walk forward toward the chasm. There is a bridge off to your right, but **crossing that bridge is not the skull route**.
Instead, look along the cliff to the left. You need the narrow shelf running against the rock face, above the drop. Move onto that shelf and follow it around the wall to its far end. Sputnik is floating there.
Take this slowly. Aim your movement along the ledge rather than straight at the skull as soon as you can see it. A direct line across the gap isn't a shortcut. If you have to make the small step or hop onto the shelf, line it up first and stop once you've landed instead of continuing to push toward the edge.
Walk close enough to use the pickup interaction and claim the skull. You don't need a grenade boost, an enemy vehicle or a particular kill order. The challenge here is noticing the backward detour and not falling off the cliff.
For orientation, the bridge remains off the route you want to take. If you've crossed it and are searching the opposite side of the chasm, return to the approach and find the narrow wall-hugging shelf instead.
After collecting Sputnik, retrace the ledge and tunnel to the starting area. Then continue with the mission. Don't jump into the chasm as a supposed required return route, and don't assume picking up the skull has automatically changed the physics of your current MCC run.
**Terminal 9: stop inside the crashed facility**
Follow the main route through the vehicle battles until you reach the burning wreckage of the Sentinel manufacturing facility. This is the portion where you leave the vehicle route and work through the wreck on foot.
The terminal is in the **first large interior room of that wreckage**, where Sentinels and Flood are fighting. Do not postpone the search until you've crossed all the wreckage and returned to the snowy vehicle areas beyond it.
Your destination is the **lower level at the far end of this room, beneath the raised platform**. Look against the wall under that platform for the glowing blue Forerunner terminal.
Use these steps rather than trying to track one moving enemy as a landmark:
1. Enter the first large chamber and identify the far platform and the floor below it.
2. Deal with enemies directly threatening the lower route. Their fight with each other can give you an opening, but it doesn't guarantee they will ignore you.
3. Move across to the far side while staying aware of the upper positions. Search underneath the platform, not on top of it.
4. With Anniversary graphics active, approach the blue panel and interact with it.
5. Check for **Delighted**, then return to the normal passage through the wreckage.
Camouflage can help you reach the panel, but clear immediate danger before stopping to hunt for it. If your shields are already being stripped, recover behind cover rather than standing at the wall trying to make the interaction prompt appear.
The reason to use the architecture here is simple: enemies move, get killed and may be fighting somewhere different when you arrive. “Under the Enforcer” is a much less dependable instruction than “on the lower floor beneath the far platform.”
**Before you move on**
Check the two achievements separately. Collecting Sputnik doesn't count as activating the terminal, and a terminal found on Sacred Icon is Terminal 8, not this one.
If you've reached the long gondola ride without activating Delighted, you've passed the terminal. Don't search the gondola controls for it or jump off the transport hoping to find another entrance. Use an earlier checkpoint only if one is actually available before the missed area; otherwise revisit Quarantine Zone.
Sputnik is especially convenient to recover because its detour is at the start. The terminal takes a longer return trip, so checking the wreckage chamber properly is worth the pause.
