Halo 2: Quarantine Zone — vehicles, the crashed factory and the ride to the Library
*Halo 2: Anniversary in The Master Chief Collection. Mission spoilers. Conventional route, not a speedrun.*
The Flood can drive now. That matters more than the vehicle's color or which army originally owned it. A Warthog isn't automatically friendly, and a Scorpion pointing at you is a problem whether its driver used to be human or not.
Quarantine Zone gives you vehicles for much of the journey, but it still has narrow passages and a long gondola defense. Keep weapons you can actually use when you have to get out. An empty rifle and the assumption that you'll stay behind the wheel all mission aren't a useful loadout.
**1. Choose a vehicle and leave the camp**
If you're collecting Sputnik on Legendary, do the opening detour before driving through the main gate. The companion collectible guide covers it. You don't need to activate Sputnik to finish the mission.
A Spectre gives you a gunner and passenger support. A Ghost gives you a smaller vehicle that is easier to maneuver through the route's tighter sections. Either can work. For a first conventional run, take the option you're comfortable controlling rather than copying a full-speed Ghost run without knowing the turns.
Wait for the gate to open and move into the first defended area. Sentinels and Enforcers are active ahead. Don't park under an Enforcer: it can grab and destroy a vehicle. Move between firing positions and attack exposed parts rather than staying directly in front of its shields.
In a Ghost, remember that boosting and firing are different actions. Boost to reposition, then release it when you need the guns. Charging straight into an enemy while expecting to keep shooting doesn't work.
**2. Get through the first large chamber**
The interior contains a battle between Forerunner machines and Flood-operated vehicles. Observe it from the entrance long enough to identify the dangerous firing lines, then move through with a plan.
A tank can punish a stationary target. Don't stop in its open lane to shoot a lesser enemy. Use the structure and changes in elevation to limit what can hit you while clearing a route toward the far exit.
If your starting vehicle is badly damaged, look for a replacement only after making the immediate area safe enough to dismount. Jumping out beside a hostile turret or combat form can turn a recoverable vehicle problem into a death.
Follow the lower onward route out of the chamber into the snowy exterior. Check behind you occasionally; moving into the next open space doesn't guarantee pursuing vehicles have stopped following.
**3. Cross the valley toward the crashed factory**
The exterior fighting includes Wraiths, Ghosts and Enforcers around the broken terrain. Follow the built crossing and canyon route rather than treating every snowy slope as a usable shortcut.
Rocket-armed Flood are a major threat near the bends and ledges. On Heroic and Legendary, don't round a blind corner at full speed unless you already know where you're going. Use cover to inspect the next stretch, remove the launcher carrier when you have a shot and then move.
At the same time, don't sit in the open trying to finish every distant enemy. If Flood and Sentinels are occupied with each other and the path is clear, you can advance without volunteering to become the third target in their fight.
Continue through the tunnel toward the crashed Sentinel manufacturing facility. Vehicle traffic and enemy machines can crowd the entrance, so avoid ramming into the first obstruction and remaining stuck there under fire.
**4. Enter the wreck and make the terminal stop**
Enter the damaged facility through the opening in its side. The route becomes cramped and uneven. Slow down if you are still using a Ghost, and leave the vehicle when the passage no longer supports a sensible approach. This guide doesn't require forcing a vehicle through geometry meant for an on-foot crossing.
The **first large room inside the crashed facility** is the stop for **Terminal 9**. It's on the lower level, beneath the platform at the far side of the room. Clear the immediate threats and use Anniversary graphics to interact with it.
This is not the gondola terminal or a panel at the Library entrance. If you're collecting it, make the stop here before continuing through the wreck.
Work through the damaged interior and connecting passages, keeping an eye on Flood coming from above or around broken machinery. Use the fights between enemy groups to move, but kill anything directly controlling your next doorway.
A shotgun or sword is useful when combat forms close in. Keep a ranged option for armed enemies you don't want to approach. Camouflage can help with a short crossing; it doesn't make the whole wreck safe to sprint through without looking.
**5. Follow the broken rooms back outside**
The route passes through damaged chambers, an exterior gap and further wreckage before returning you to a larger vehicle area. Keep following the connected openings rather than dropping into the pits around the machinery.
When a corner is tight, check it on foot or approach slowly enough to turn. A rocket Flood waiting beyond a bend is especially dangerous if you've just wedged your Ghost against the wall.
Past the narrow passages and ledges, you get another opportunity to use vehicles. An empty Ghost provides mobility; a Scorpion offers heavier firepower if you can reach and secure it. Look for armed Flood around the equipment before climbing in.
For a methodical run, the Scorpion is useful against hostile vehicles at range. Don't drive it into close quarters simply because its cannon made the last open encounter easy. Watch nearby infantry and keep enough room to back away.
**6. Link up with Rtas and reach the station**
Continue into the next valley. A friendly Phantom brings a Spectre and support, including Rtas. Treat that arrival as help, not another target just because a dropship is moving overhead.
Push through the remaining battles toward the gondola station. Use distance against enemy vehicles and watch the approach to the building for mounted guns. The entrance is defended; don't abandon a vehicle in front of several active turrets and expect camouflage to fix the landing.
Clear a path, dismount and enter the small onward doorway. The route through it leads to the large transport. Rtas stays behind as the Arbiter sets off toward the Library.
Before moving into that sequence, check your ammunition. You'll soon be fighting on a platform with fewer places to retreat than the valley had.
**7. Defend the gondola**
Flood leap onto the gondola during the ride. Use its solid structures to break lines of fire, but keep checking both the upper approaches and the lower areas. The group you can see on one side isn't necessarily the whole wave.
Stay near enough to the friendly Elites to support them without throwing grenades into their feet. Take down combat forms that are about to reach your position, then deal with ranged attackers. Destroy intact bodies between attacks when it's safe so they aren't simply reanimated behind you.
The sword and shotgun are useful here because enemies often get close. Explosives still need space. A rocket fired at a combat form already standing beside you can end your run faster than the Flood would have.
If your shields fail, use camo to move to cover and recover. Don't interpret this as a guarantee that one hiding spot makes you invulnerable. This walkthrough uses the playable deck, not a position clipped inside the transport's structure.
The ride continues through successive attacks with Phantom support during the sequence. Keep defending until the transport reaches its destination. Don't jump onto nearby scenery to try to beat the other gondola across.
**8. Enter the Library**
Once docked, leave the transport and follow the hallway into the Library. Take the connecting passage toward the Icon chamber. There are infection forms and bodies in this stretch, so don't stop indefinitely with your back to them.
The urgent dialogue doesn't create a separate stopwatch challenge where you can lose the campaign because the humans reached their platform first. Follow the route to trigger the ending scene. There isn't a playable race against Miranda followed by a new boss fight.
That ends Quarantine Zone. The next mission changes your situation considerably, so let the ending play rather than hunting the gondola for another switch after you've arrived.
