Halo 2: The Oracle — the Flood, the cables and the Heretic Leader *Halo 2: Anniversary in The Master Chief Collection. Full mission and boss spoilers. Conventional route, not a speedrun.* The first part of The Oracle is about staying alive while the way forward opens. The second part is a chase through a station you've decided to cut loose from its moorings. Then the Heretic Leader makes the last few minutes considerably worse by giving you several versions of himself to shoot at. The important thing when the boss fight begins: there are **two holographic copies and one real leader**, not three copies. Those copies can hurt you. Treating them as harmless distractions is a quick way to lose the fight. **1. Clear the first laboratory** Follow your squad inside, through the opening rooms and into the laboratory with bodies on the floor. The Heretic Leader appears as a projection. Once that exchange ends, infection forms arrive and can reanimate intact Flood combat forms. Destroy the bodies before the infection forms reach them where you can. Then deal with the moving threats rather than standing over a corpse while something attacks your back. Your allies help with the small forms; keep the larger attackers from closing on the squad. A sword is useful against combat forms. A Sentinel beam, when available, is another good option for clearing Flood without repeatedly running into melee range. Don't rely on an old guide's unlimited-sword carryover trick; this route doesn't require it. The door opens after the encounter. If it hasn't, check the room for surviving enemies rather than trying to force the exit. **2. Ride the descending platform** The next large circular platform carries you down through a shaft. Flood jump onto it during the descent, and Sentinels are involved in the fighting too. Stay aboard. Looking down and deciding you can save time by dropping to a lower ledge is not part of this route. Use the center structure and the raised parts of the platform to break lines of fire. Keep turning to check the edges as enemies land. The danger is often a combat form reaching you from the side while you're following a Sentinel overhead. Protect the friendly Elites when you can. They divide enemy attention and help keep the platform under control. Losing one isn't an automatic restart, but letting several combat forms surround them creates more work for you afterward. On Normal, you can be fairly aggressive with the sword. On Heroic and Legendary, avoid lunging through one enemy into the rest of the wave. Take the nearest threat, move back toward cover and make the next decision from there. Use camo to disengage if your shields go down, but keep moving out of the line of fire rather than expecting invisibility to cancel shots already coming at you. Destroy intact combat-form bodies when the immediate wave has settled. At the bottom, leave through the open doorway and follow the corridor to the next laboratory. **3. Survive the two-level laboratory** You enter above a room where Heretics and Flood are already fighting, with breakable glass separating parts of the upper level. Don't drop directly into the center of both sides. Watch the fight briefly, choose a landing spot near the perimeter and break the glass when you're ready to descend. Use columns and the room's edges for cover. Both factions can become your problem even if they were shooting at each other a moment ago. This is also the mission's collectible room. The terminal and Famine skull are separate stops here; consult the companion collectible route before leaving if you're gathering them. Don't confuse this laboratory with the small opening room before the long elevator ride. Expect further waves rather than assuming the room is finished when the original enemies die. Check the upper entry area as well as the floor. A turret can help when enemies are kept in front of it, but leave it when you're being flanked instead of staying attached until your shields disappear. Keep explosive carrier forms at a distance. If several enemies are together, a grenade can help, but throw it into their space rather than into your own retreat path. Eventually the exit opens and Heretics come through. Clear that group and use their doorway to continue. If progress stalls, sweep the room for surviving Flood before concluding the door is broken. Pick up any weapon you deliberately left behind before passing through the airlock. **4. Climb the exterior paths** Outside, the route goes upward. Fight along the sloping paths and use their bends to limit how many enemies can see you at once. Continue to the higher doorway leading back inside. The friendly Phantom can provide support. You don't need to stop the whole mission waiting for a particular number of reinforcements to step out; what arrives can depend on which allies survived. Inside the large central room, finish the immediate fighting and approach the Heretic Leader's position. He shuts himself behind a shielded barrier. Don't unload your ammunition into that barrier trying to finish the boss early. The next objective is to force him out by cutting the station loose. Make sure you have the sword for the cable sequence. The Commander provides one if you don't already have one. **5. Cut all three cable connections** Follow the winding ramp upward through the central chamber. Flood and Sentinels are fighting around the route. Kill what blocks you, but there's no reason to chase every enemy into a side angle while the objective is above you. At the top, activate the lift and ride it up to the cable area. Let the radio instructions finish, then work around the upper space to the three attachment points. Use the energy sword against each cable where it joins the structure, continuing until that connection breaks. You can do them in any order. Listen for the acknowledgement and check the cable itself rather than counting a particular number of swings. Camo can help you reach a connection. If an enemy is about to hit you, deal with it before returning to the cable. On Legendary, “ignore everything” is less useful advice than knowing which threats actually have a shot at you. After the third connection is severed, the station begins falling. Let the sequence settle and return to the lift. Don't improvise a huge jump down the shaft. Use the lift to get back into the main chamber. **6. Follow the leader down, not back outside** Return to the lower part of the central room and the doorway that was previously sealed by the Heretic Leader. It's open now, with defenders around the route. Clear the entrance and go through. There is another elevator here: use its side control to call it up if necessary, then board and activate it to descend. This is a different lift from the one you just used to reach the cables. Continue through the lower machinery area and its connecting passages. Watch for sword Elites on the approach to the next exit. Back away while shooting rather than trying to squeeze past one in the doorway. The next scene puts you into a Banshee. Follow the HUD destination across the gap. This is a short transfer through the storm, not another long circuit clearing weapons platforms. Stay in the aircraft and head for the marked landing area; the arrival sequence takes you back on foot. **7. Return to the hangar** Fight through the familiar interior passages toward the hangar from the previous mission. You'll meet Flood, Heretics and surviving Sentinels along the way. Let enemies occupied with each other give you room to move, but don't assume they will keep ignoring you once you cross their firing line. Clear a route through the last open conveyor chamber and continue into the hangar containing the Seraph fighter. Reload and check your weapons before committing to the confrontation. A ranged weapon is valuable here even if the sword has carried much of the level. **8. Fight the leader and his copies** After the cutscene, get into cover promptly. Three flying, armed figures can put a lot of plasma into the same patch of floor. Use the hangar's side recesses and solid structures to fight a smaller angle. Step out to attack a visible target, then retreat before your shields are gone. Camo helps create an opening, but it isn't a reason to stand in the center trading fire. Damage the copies to eliminate them and reduce the incoming fire. They flicker away when destroyed. The real leader is the target you ultimately need to kill; destroying a copy alone doesn't finish the encounter. On Normal, concentrating damage on the real leader can end the fight much more directly. **On Heroic and Legendary, expect retreat-and-return phases**, including movement through the upper vents and fresh copies. When he withdraws, reload, recover your shields and reposition. Don't waste your remaining ammunition firing at the place where he disappeared. Grenade sticks and sustained ranged damage are useful when you have a clean opportunity. A fuel rod gun can hit hard if you've brought one, but it isn't required, and firing it into nearby cover can kill you. The sword is risky when reaching the target means crossing several firing lines. Use it when the target is genuinely within reach, not as a plan to chase a flying enemy around the room. Repeat the cover-and-attack rhythm until the real leader falls and the ending scene begins. There's no extra cable, switch or aircraft objective after the boss. That closes The Oracle and this part of the Arbiter's pursuit.
