Halo 2: Outskirts — Blind, IWHBYD and the beach terminal
**Halo 2: Anniversary in The Master Chief Collection.**
Outskirts has one skull you can grab almost immediately, another that might not appear even when you've reached the right room, and a terminal much farther into the level. Treat them as three separate stops. You don't need to drag a failed IWHBYD attempt all the way through the beach section before trying again.
**Before starting**
- **Blind:** any difficulty. Easy is fine if this is all you need.
- **IWHBYD:** use **Legendary, solo**, starting Outskirts from the beginning. This is the route setup here, not a promise that every co-op setup works the same way.
- **Terminal 2:** any difficulty. Use Anniversary graphics to find and activate it.
Skulls need to be **picked up with your interaction button**. Merely standing beside one isn't the same thing. In MCC, collecting a Halo 2 skull is also separate from turning its modifier on in the pre-mission menu. You aren't required to finish the campaign with Blind active just because you found it.
If you're only missing the terminal, don't make life harder by running the entire mission on Legendary for it.
**Blind: above the very first doorway**
From the Pelican crash site, enter the first short passage. Deal with the Grunt, then stop. Don't run all the way into the courtyard battle.
Look above the doorway for the projecting light fixture. Jump onto the light, then use a crouch-jump to reach the upper ledge/roof. Crouch near the top of your jump to get your feet over the lip; this does **not** require a grenade jump.
Once you're up, turn into the narrow, dark passage between the buildings on the left. Follow it to the end. The skull is beside the grenades and spotting equipment. Pick it up for **Skulltaker Halo 2: Blind**.
If a jump fails, line yourself up again from the passage rather than throwing grenades into the small space. The roof is close enough to reach normally. Classic graphics can make the original edges easier to judge if the remastered scenery is getting in your way.
Return to the opening passage when you're ready to continue. This is a detour before the main fight, not the start of a compulsory rooftop route through the whole mission.
**IWHBYD: the important part is the spawn, not a seven-checkpoint ritual**
There is a lot of old advice about this skull. Some guides insist on seven checkpoints, particular dialogue, killing specific Jackals in a specific order, or waiting in several places. Those instructions mix routes, older assumptions and the original game's skull-activation challenge.
The consistent MCC guidance is **Legendary, the Sniper Alley encounter loaded, and a random chance for the skull to appear**. Guides disagree on the exact odds, so don't plan around a particular attempt number guaranteeing it.
A checkpoint notification isn't proof that the skull rolled successfully. An empty room doesn't automatically mean you missed a mandatory checkpoint, either.
**Get to the correct room**
For a straightforward first attempt, follow the normal mission through the courtyard and Hunters, then reach the area where Johnson leaves aboard the Pelican. Continue into **Sniper Alley** so the Jackal snipers actually spawn. Don't use a rooftop shortcut that bypasses loading this encounter and then assume the skull must be waiting.
Take the snipers seriously on Legendary. Clear the firing angles before climbing; a jump that leaves you exposed is a very bad time to discover a surviving Jackal.
From the alley, use the dumpster on the right to reach the adjacent roof. Continue up the wall-mounted pipes to the next platform, then cross to the roof opposite. Move diagonally forward-right, past the bridge-like connection between buildings, and turn left toward the balcony doorway across the alley.
Enter that small upper room and check the floor to the right. The sniper rifle/ammunition cache helps identify it. This is the skull's room, not the opening Blind passage and not the hidden Rex sword location. Give it a moment after entering rather than glancing through the doorway and immediately leaving.
If IWHBYD is present, pick it up. The MCC achievement is **Skulltaker Halo 2: IWHBYD**.
**If the room is empty**
First check your setup: solo Legendary, correct room, and Sniper Alley loaded. If those are right, a failed random roll is a real possibility.
Restarting the mission gives you a clean attempt. A checkpoint **before** the Sniper Alley trigger can shorten retries, if you actually still have that checkpoint available. Reverting to a save already made after the roll is not a reliable way to produce a new result.
Don't spend an hour repeatedly reloading the same empty-room checkpoint on the assumption that each reload is another independent chance. And don't treat somebody else's “worked first time” route as a guarantee for yours.
Checkpoint-management methods exist, but their usefulness is preserving an earlier retry point—not making seven checkpoint messages into a hidden combination. For an uncomplicated guide, a fresh mission attempt is easier to explain than deliberately manipulating autosaves.
**You do not need the seven-wave fight for the MCC achievement**
Older guides describe being transported into the street and fighting waves of Ultra Elites. **MCC's collectible achievement is awarded for claiming the skull; surviving that entire encounter is not an additional achievement requirement.**
Check the achievement record after pickup rather than deciding you've failed because you died in a subsequent fight. Unlock notifications can lag; that is different from a skull that never spawned.
**Terminal 2: the final beach structure before the highway tunnel**
Continue through the streets and Hotel Zanzibar, then along the beach. Before driving into the highway tunnel, stop at the small bunker-like structure in the final beach section—the one containing rocket-launcher/sniper ammunition.
Clear the nearby enemies, park somewhere that won't leave you standing in vehicle fire, and enter the structure's **ground floor**. The terminal is a screen flashing **INCOMING MESSAGE**. Switch to Anniversary graphics, walk up to it and interact to activate the recording and earn **Inquisitive**.
This is before the tunnel, not inside it. If you're already racing past the tunnel's vehicle encounters, you've passed the intended stop. Revisit from an available earlier point or replay the mission rather than searching every tunnel wall for a terminal that isn't there.
Your checklist is simple: Blind collected, IWHBYD collected, Inquisitive unlocked. Three separate checks—and no need to repeat the ones already recorded while working on that stubborn random spawn.
