Halo CE in MCC: planning LASO and Goat Roped without mixing them up
Combat Evolved Anniversary in The Master Chief Collection, not Campaign Evolved.
These are two different projects. **Like a Fine Wine** asks you to finish CE's LASO Campaign playlist. **Goat Roped** asks for the ten Legendary mission times to total less than three hours. One is about completing a specific playlist with its modifiers. The other is about recorded Legendary times.
You can work toward both, but I wouldn't make an unfamiliar LASO run carry the pressure of a speed attempt too. Learn what each one is checking before investing hours in it.
**LASO: start the actual playlist**
Go through MCC's campaign playlists and select **Halo CE's LASO Campaign**. Don't select missions individually, turn on a collection of skulls yourself, and expect that to substitute for completing the named playlist.
The playlist supplies its own settings. “All Skulls On” does not mean manually enabling every modifier MCC has ever added. Its defined selection is what matters for this achievement. Old launch-era guides describing a smaller skull set also aren't a reliable description of the current playlist.
Before starting, inspect the selected playlist and confirm it is the CE LASO one. When you return after a break, resume that playlist rather than accidentally starting a separate mission. Keep track of its completed missions, not just the Legendary badges elsewhere in the campaign menu.
**What changes the way you play**
The combination matters more than any single modifier:
- **Black Eye:** don't plan around your shields recovering simply because you hid behind a wall. Landing a melee hit on an enemy is part of recovering them.
- **Foreign:** a normal route that depends on grabbing Covenant weapons needs rethinking.
- **Famine and Recession:** ammunition management becomes a route decision, not something you leave until the gun is empty.
- **Boom and Grunt Funeral:** explosions can solve a fight, but a Grunt dying beside you is dangerous. Don't blindly carry over a normal-difficulty habit of rushing in to melee everything.
- **Iron:** plan around the death penalty. Solo deaths restart the mission; in co-op a player's death sends the team back to its checkpoint.
Those are reasons to practice an encounter before committing to a long attempt. Decide which enemy you can approach, which weapon you need for the next room, and where you'll retreat if the first plan fails. A successful normal Legendary tactic isn't automatically a successful LASO tactic.
Co-op is allowed, but it isn't a way to ignore those rules. Agree on targets and movement, especially around explosives. One player rushing ahead while the other is still recovering can undo a good section for both of you.
I would keep a short note after each difficult section: what went wrong, which ammunition ran out, and what position actually worked. That's more useful than repeatedly restarting with the same vague plan to be more careful.
**Goat Roped: add the right times**
The target is **under 3:00:00 across the ten CE missions on Legendary**. It is based on best qualifying mission times, not a demand that you complete the entire campaign in one uninterrupted sitting.
You can improve a single slow mission later. You also don't need every individual mission below its own par time if the combined total is low enough. Conversely, beating all the par-time achievements on Easy doesn't provide Legendary times for Goat Roped.
Use your recorded Legendary results. A page showing your fastest clear on any difficulty can be misleading here. Record the mission, difficulty, solo/co-op mode, time and date of the attempt. Wait until the completed run is actually recorded before replacing the old entry in your notes.
Solo and co-op are supported, and community documentation describes using the best qualifying result from either. Reports about mixed-mode completion tracking have been inconsistent over the years. My practical recommendation is to establish a complete Legendary record in your main mode first, then verify any improved times you add. That's a way to reduce tracking ambiguity, not a new rule that everyone must complete the campaign twice.
**Use the par times as a reference, not ten separate requirements**
| Mission | Par-time reference |
|---|---:|
| The Pillar of Autumn | 15 minutes |
| Halo | 20 minutes |
| The Truth and Reconciliation | 20 minutes |
| The Silent Cartographer | 15 minutes |
| Assault on the Control Room | 15 minutes |
| 343 Guilty Spark | 15 minutes |
| The Library | 25 minutes |
| Two Betrayals | 20 minutes |
| Keyes | 15 minutes |
| The Maw | 15 minutes |
Those add up to **2 hours 55 minutes**. That gives you a useful reference, but only five minutes between that total and the achievement limit. Aim for breathing room rather than trying to land exactly on three hours.
Start by totaling your existing Legendary times. Then identify where you're losing the most recoverable time. A mission with repeated wrong turns may be a better improvement target than one where shaving another minute would require a difficult trick you haven't learned.
Don't assume an impressive old speedrun video is a guaranteed route on your edition. Learn the conventional sequence, then practice any shortcut separately. A skip that breaks the next encounter or leaves you without required transport doesn't help the overall time.
**Finish individual timed attempts cleanly**
For a serious time attempt, finish that mission in one session. Halo Support specifically warns that quitting and resuming a mission across sessions can interfere with speedrunning and scoring unlocks. That advice does **not** mean all ten missions have to happen in one sitting.
Read modifier warnings. Don't assume that adding infinite ammunition or flight preserves a qualifying time just because the mission still ends. Keeping speed attempts free of optional helper skulls is the straightforward choice while checking your records.
Likewise, don't build a plan around an old save-and-quit trick supposedly erasing a death or restoring a timer. That is not the same as a cleanly recorded completion, and this guide isn't promising that it works on your current build.
**If the achievement hasn't appeared**
First check the evidence: all ten Legendary mission results for Goat Roped, or the completed CE LASO playlist for Like a Fine Wine. Those are different records.
On PC, use the normal EAC-enabled game with unmodified files. Check the achievement list again rather than relying only on a notification. Halo Support notes that campaign and playlist achievements can be delayed, commonly up to 24–72 hours; it recommends a support ticket if they remain missing after that period.
Don't delete your saves as an opening troubleshooting step. Keep the completion evidence and work out which result is missing or unregistered before repeating a whole campaign.
This is the preparation for those runs, not a claim that the earlier mission walkthroughs are tested LASO or sub-three-hour routes. Those need their own encounter-level work. Get the setup and records right first, then you can spend the time improving the run instead of discovering afterward that you were tracking the wrong thing.
