The Maw: terminal and Grunt Birthday Party skull — Halo CE Anniversary in MCC
Spoilers for the final mission of Halo: Combat Evolved.
The Maw has one terminal and one hidden skull. The terminal is on the way through the ship, before engineering. The skull is much later, during the Warthog escape. Get the terminal when you pass it rather than leaving both collectibles until the end, because they are nowhere near each other.
This is for **Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary inside The Master Chief Collection**, not Halo: Campaign Evolved. Those versions do not put the same collectibles in the same places.
**Before starting**
Both pickups can be collected on **any difficulty**. Easy is fine if you want a separate collection run rather than trying to fit everything into a Legendary escape.
Use Anniversary graphics when looking for them. For the skull, move across the actual object to claim it; for the terminal, use the interaction prompt. Having Grunt Birthday Party available in MCC's skull settings does not mean you have collected its hidden object.
The two individual achievements are:
- **Kilotons of Fun** — the terminal on The Maw.
- **Skulltaker Halo: CE: Grunt Birthday Party** — the hidden skull on The Maw.
**Terminal 10: the upstairs cryo control room**
Play through the opening and reach the bridge. Let the story sequence finish, deal with the Sentinels, and follow the route toward engineering. The collectible terminal is **after that bridge visit**, not the console Cortana uses in the bridge scene.
You will reach the cryogenic-storage section, marked **Cryo B**. There are Flood and Sentinels fighting around this part of the ship. Clear the enemies that can reach you before stopping to search.
1. Enter the cryo chamber and find the ladder up to its upper level.
2. Climb to the control room overlooking the chamber. Do not continue straight through it into the next stretch of corridors yet.
3. Check the wall-mounted computer screens for the glowing red terminal. It resembles the human computer terminal from the opening mission, rather than the freestanding Covenant panels from some earlier levels.
4. Interact with it and let the terminal presentation open.
The useful landmark is the **upstairs control room above Cryo B**. If you are searching among the cryo pods on the floor, you are one level too low. If you have pushed into the long corridor with Carrier Forms, you have gone beyond the room you wanted.
Do this before continuing toward the armory and engine room. The later escape is not a sensible time to try to return for it.
**Grunt Birthday Party: the failed pickup point**
Continue through engineering and reach the Warthog run. Partway through that drive, Cortana calls Foehammer for extraction. You emerge onto a large exposed bridge where the Pelican is attacked.
That is your skull stop. It is **not** the enormous vehicle jump farther along the escape route.
As you enter the exposed bridge, look toward its far end. The skull sits on the **right-hand raised railing/pipe, near the far wall**. “Right” here means your right while facing forward along the route you were driving, not while looking back toward the entrance.
Use the Warthog as your step:
1. Drive to the far-right end of the bridge and park beside the raised railing, staying on the roadway.
2. Position the rear gun close enough to the railing to give you a short jump. Reversing the rear of the Warthog toward that point is one way to line it up.
3. Get out onto the bridge, climb onto the vehicle and use the gun as your higher jumping point.
4. Jump onto the railing. Crouching during the jump can help clear its edge.
5. Move carefully along the raised surface to the skull against the wall, and walk over it.
There is no need to grenade-jump off the outside of the ship. Keep the vehicle available for your return, drop back onto the roadway rather than the open side, and get back in to continue the escape.
This is still part of a timed finale. Watch your remaining time and do not turn the stop into an extended search or assume the extraction scene gives you unlimited time afterward. A collection run is a better place to learn the jump than a run where you are already barely making the finish.
**If you miss one**
An available checkpoint before the missed pickup may let you retry. If your checkpoint has moved beyond a practical return route, revisit The Maw rather than expecting MCC to offer a list of old checkpoints.
Also, the hidden **Rex** writing is a separate Easter egg associated with the later large Warthog jump. It is not this skull, and finding it does not replace collecting Grunt Birthday Party.
