Halo CE in MCC: The Library achievement checklist
Mission spoilers. This guide covers **The Library in The Master Chief Collection**, not the standalone Xbox 360 Anniversary release or Campaign Evolved.
The Library is one of those missions where trying to do everything at once can make the whole thing harder than it needs to be. The deathless achievement wants patience. The time achievement wants you moving. The skulls send you off the main route. You can combine some of those, but there's no reason to turn one collectible into the thing that ruins an otherwise clean run.
**What you're actually working toward**
- **The Library:** complete the mission.
- **That Just Happened:** finish on Heroic or Legendary without dying.
- **TLDR:** beat the 25-minute par time.
- **Reading Room:** beat the 25,000-point par score.
- **Skulltaker Halo: CE: Black Eye:** collect Black Eye in remastered mode.
- **Skulltaker Halo: CE: Eye Patch:** collect Eye Patch in remastered mode.
- **Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?** — activate terminal seven.
That's seven mission-specific targets. The [MCC achievement list](https://t.co/AY8YBFKuKN) and [edition-by-edition mission table](https://t.co/bbMYEBn5jJ) are useful checks before following an older guide.
**Speed Reader is not an MCC achievement.** Its Legendary, 30-minute requirement belongs to Xbox 360 Anniversary. MCC's time target here is 25 minutes, and you don't have to play Legendary for it. That distinction matters if you've been looking at guides with almost identical game names.
**That Just Happened: use Heroic and give yourself room**
Heroic meets the requirement. Legendary is optional, not an extra condition you need to satisfy. There is also no time limit attached to this particular achievement. You need a deathless Library mission, not a deathless entire campaign. [Requirement and MCC-specific guidance](https://t.co/Wm9eBcvFAx)
I'd keep this separate from the collectible run, especially Black Eye's jump. Start the mission fresh, leave the skull detours alone, and concentrate on getting through safely.
A shotgun is worth holding onto once you get one. Keep enough space to deal with carrier forms before they reach you, and don't push blindly around a corner when a rocket-carrying combat form can end the attempt immediately. During the locked-door fights, choose a position you can retreat from rather than standing where several approaches meet. Clear enough space to reload and recover your shields before moving on.
Those are survival priorities, not a claim that you have to kill every enemy. You also don't need to force a fast door-to-door route just because it works in a speedrun video.
If you die, the straightforward way to make the next attempt unambiguous is to restart the mission. I'm not recommending an old save-and-quit trick to erase a death. Equally, **the achievement's stated rule does not say that merely pausing or quitting automatically invalidates it**. Those are different claims. Don't turn a conservative fresh-start recommendation into an invented requirement.
**TLDR: a separate Easy run makes sense**
The target is **under 25 minutes**, and Easy is valid. The [MCC-specific time guide](https://t.co/E7kOOZokIl) confirms both.
Learn the route before worrying about the clock. Repeated-looking corridors are where it's easy to lose time without accomplishing anything. Know where Spark opens the next passage, where you have to wait, and where the route carries on after each lift.
For the timed attempt:
1. Leave the skulls and terminal for another run.
2. Keep moving through sections you already understand.
3. Fight when it clears your route or lets you survive a required holdout; don't stop to hunt every straggler.
4. Give yourself a margin rather than aiming to finish at exactly 25:00.
This checklist is not a promised 25-minute walkthrough. Knowing the achievement target and having a practiced route are two different things.
**Reading Room: finish with the score, not just the kills**
The par score is **25,000 points**. There isn't a named difficulty requirement for this achievement; difficulty and scoring modifiers affect how practical the target is. [Reading Room](https://t.co/DE0YMMRm3S)
Use the scoring display and choose a setup you can actually finish consistently. More multipliers aren't automatically better if they cause repeated deaths. A comfortable difficulty with controlled fights is a better starting point than stacking several unfamiliar skull effects and hoping the numbers work out.
Don't assume that every helpful skull preserves every achievement. Check the warning when enabling it. Finish the mission and verify the result rather than treating an earlier score reading as the end of the job.
**Collectibles: collect them, don't activate them**
Black Eye and Eye Patch are pickup achievements. You don't have to enable their gameplay effects for the rest of the mission. Terminal seven is an activation, not just something to walk past.
The collectible order is **Black Eye near the beginning, terminal seven later, Eye Patch near the end**. Leave the final Index approach until after collecting Eye Patch; ending the mission first means another trip for that pickup. Use the separate location guide for the actual route rather than improvising during a deathless attempt. [Collectible order and locations](https://t.co/T7coefkqHy)
**Before you start another attempt**
For score and time runs, Halo Support recommends finishing the mission in one session because quitting and resuming can cause unlock problems. That's troubleshooting advice, not an additional deathless rule. On PC, use the normal EAC-enabled game with unmodified files. [Official achievement troubleshooting](https://t.co/Jv9M0J6lFL)
My suggested order is collectibles first, Heroic deathless second, then separate time and score attempts. Combine them later if you want. Learning what keeps killing you is much more useful than repeatedly losing three different objectives in the same run.
