Halo CE in MCC: Fog, Malfunction, and the Control Room terminal **Edition: Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary inside The Master Chief Collection. Mission 5: Assault on the Control Room. Location spoilers below.** This mission repeats enough rooms that a vague instruction like “look in the room with the central column” can send you searching the wrong place for ages. The three stops you want are spread across the level: Fog just after the first elevator descent, Malfunction in the underground vehicle section, and the terminal at the foot of the final structure. All three can be collected on Easy. Use Anniversary's remastered graphics for both skulls and to see the terminal clearly. You do not have to activate Fog or Malfunction as gameplay modifiers to collect them. **Fog: after the first elevator, before the first snowy battlefield** Follow the normal opening route across the first outdoor bridge and through the interior rooms. Take the first elevator down. The room you need is on this lower route, immediately before you emerge into the first open snowy battlefield with the Wraith and stranded Marines. Look for the central glass-sided structure with mist rising through it. The skull is inside its upper opening, not on the floor at the bottom of the mist. If you have reached the Marines and their overturned Warthog, you have just passed this stop; you can return through the entrance behind you. Clear the room before attempting the jump. Around the central structure are raised pieces of floor and pillars. Move to the higher floor ledge beside the tallest outer platform. From there, use a grenade-assisted jump to reach the top of that platform, then make the ordinary jump into the opening in the central structure. For the boost, place the grenade on your launch surface and jump toward the platform just before the explosion, so it catches you in the air. Start with your shields recharged rather than trying while injured or under fire. This is a timing jump, not an instruction to stand on a live grenade and wait. Once inside the opening, walk over the skull in remastered mode. Check for **Skulltaker Halo: CE: Fog**. Get back onto the surrounding platform before dropping to the room floor, then continue toward the snowy exit. **If you do not want to grenade-jump** Updated MCC includes Acrophobia for CE. On a dedicated collection run, that modifier lets you fly to the opening instead. Press jump twice and hold the second press to fly; crouch lets you hover. Approach through the normal rooms first rather than flying past loading points. This is a convenient access option, not advice for a par-time or par-score run. Check the collectible achievement afterward; do not assume a modifier is compatible with every other goal on your checklist. **Malfunction: below the underground bridge approach** Later, after the snowy vehicle battles and the opportunity to take the Scorpion, the route enters a huge underground chamber with a deep chasm. This is **not** one of the outdoor bridges from the opening. There is an intact crossing and a broken bridge section. Stay on the side where you entered the chamber. Move toward the broken bridge on the right, then look down and slightly left from that approach. A narrow pipe or conduit projects out below the main floor. The skull is sitting on it. 1. Clear the nearby threat before leaving your vehicle. 2. Park back from the edge and locate the skull from above in remastered graphics. 3. Line yourself up over the actual pipe. Do not leap blindly into the chasm or aim for the broken bridge's missing section. 4. Drop onto the pipe, move carefully to the skull, and walk over it. The achievement is **Skulltaker Halo: CE: Malfunction**. The Scorpion is a landmark for where you are in the mission, not something you must drive onto the pipe. Plan the return before dropping. If you are using Acrophobia for this collection run, fly back up to the entrance-side floor once you have collected it. Without flight, do not count on an easy jump straight back from the narrow pipe. If you cannot get back safely, confirm the collectible achievement and revert to the previous checkpoint to resume the normal route. Check that it was recorded rather than assuming a pickup followed immediately by a reload always settles every tracker. **Terminal 5: underneath the final structure's large support** Near the end of the level, reach the snowy ground in front of the enormous sloping Control Room structure. Before climbing all the way to its entrance, inspect the base of the long metal support that runs diagonally down its front. There is a recessed opening in the ground beneath that support. Descend into this crevice and look for the glowing terminal. It is down here at the base, not inside the Control Room itself. Walk up to it and use the interaction prompt. The achievement is **Hitchhikers May Be Escaping Convicts**. After activating it, return out of the recess to the exterior approach and continue up the structure. Get this before triggering the mission's ending. Do not confuse this with the terminal around the circular walkway at the beginning of **Two Betrayals**. That is a different mission and a different terminal, even though the scenery is familiar. Your three checks for this mission are Fog, Malfunction, and Terminal 5. If one is missing, replaying this mission is enough; there is no reason to restart the campaign from the Pillar of Autumn.
