SCP-166: Just a Teenage Gaea
SCP-166 is a teenager whose presence makes the modern world difficult to live in. Artificial objects around her gradually break down, and plants begin growing in places they shouldn't. At the same time, pollutants and manufactured materials can seriously affect her health.
Those abilities might sound powerful from a distance. For the person living with them, they mean being unable to do ordinary things other teenagers take for granted.
She grew up in a Catholic convent before entering Foundation custody. Her requests include religious items, access to a priest, and contact with the people who raised her. Meanwhile, documents from the Global Occult Coalition describe her as capable of participating in a ritual that could send civilization back to a much earlier state.
The personal story becomes clearer through the interviews and a letter from her father. He admits killing her mother to stop what she was doing, explains leaving his daughter with the convent, and asks for forgiveness. None of that gives his daughter the childhood or freedom she's missed.
There's a lot to work with in the difference between how institutions describe someone and how that person experiences her own life. A file can list a possible worldwide catastrophe. The person inside the room can still be worried about her parents and wanting to call home.
Neither side of that situation simply erases the other. Real consequences can exist around a person who has done nothing to choose them. Protecting other people can still mean placing severe restrictions on someone who doesn't deserve to be punished.
That's where this version of the story gets its weight. You can follow the security concerns and still see how much they cost. Knowing why a door is locked doesn't make being on the other side of it any easier.
The family history adds another uncomfortable layer. Adults make decisions they consider necessary, then a child has to grow up inside the consequences. Even an explanation offered with love can't undo those choices. It can only start a conversation that should probably have happened a long time ago.
