Johanka's trial
Before you talk to the Inquisitor
Keep a save before this conversation. Jaroslav gives you three in-game days to get ready. Count from the conversation where he agrees to let you defend her. Stay in Sasau and work on her case rather than leaving to do other quests. There are conflicting accounts of what happens if you go over the deadline, so don't count on having extra time. When you get back from the pilgrimage, talk to the unfamiliar guard at the monastery, then Nicodemus. Jaroslav is upstairs. Be respectful and convince him to let you defend her.
Go back to Nicodemus and ask him to testify. Then speak to Guta at the tailor's, Pavel around the monastery tavern, and Adela at the monastery. Whether they can help depends on what happened in their earlier quests. Talk to Sebastian about his testimony too.
The bailiff will point you toward Katra, the swordsmith's wife. Don't bribe him. Ask Katra what she has against Johanka and how she tried to warn her. The persuasion check gets her to admit her involvement with the men who were harassing Johanka, which gives you something to challenge her with at the trial. Speak to Father Fabian as well, although he isn't on Johanka's side. Witness preparation (https://t.co/6DcRozZ8xh)
Tell Jaroslav about the affair too
Tell him what you know about Johanka, including what happened with Sebastian. This is why you want to have asked her about the new room earlier. When the affair comes up in court, you can explain that Sebastian took advantage of her.
You can still get the best ending after telling Jaroslav about it. But I wouldn't tell you that disclosing the affair is a requirement for that ending, because that hasn't been established. The conversation with Jaroslav is separate from the one you already had with Godwin in Uzhitz. A successful defense that included the disclosure (https://t.co/CjTRjF7UjV)
Visit Johanka twice
Johanka is in the jail behind the bailiff's house. You can bribe the guard or show him the Inquisitor's retinue papers. The papers can be stolen from Jaroslav's office cabinet or pickpocketed from Jaroslav, his assistant, or the white-armored guard. Getting into the jail (https://t.co/MZWq27tkR1)
When you first visit Johanka, ask her to be careful about what she says at the trial. She won't listen. But there's more you can do here, so don't leave it at that and start the trial.
Go back to Nicodemus and tell him what happened. Then talk to Matthias in the infirmary. He gives you his lucky die to take to her. Now go back to Johanka, give her the die, and talk to her again about how she needs to behave in front of the Inquisitor. Keep talking until she agrees to be more careful about what she says at the trial.
You also need to have read the Matthew of Janow manuscript that Godwin gave you. Having it in your inventory and never opening it doesn't finish that part of the preparation. Johanka, Matthias and the manuscript (https://t.co/ZmBBz166CS)
If you've already bribed the jailer or made another mistake, don't assume you've ruined everything. The ending takes several choices into account. Johanka’s behavior, your witnesses and the manuscript matter a lot. The information people have pulled from the quest files also lists penalties for some bribes, being late and reporting the affair. So a mistake doesn't necessarily cost you the ending, and it's worth finishing the rest of the preparation. Quest-file discussion (https://t.co/T50YhLuM3A)
Cleric's Pet
If you're going for this achievement, there are things you need to have done much earlier. You won't have time to start all of these after Jaroslav gives you the three-day deadline.
You need to be able to tell him about:
- Godwin's drinking and debauchery during Mysterious Ways.
- Father Simon's story and whereabouts from A Man of the Cloth.
- The heresy investigation in Waldensians.
- The women's ritual in Playing with the Devil.
- The supposed devil's skull in The House of God.
- The drinking circators and irregularities inside the monastery, including Nasty Habits.
Use the conversation about suspicious activities to report what you learned. A shortcut through one of those quests might leave you without the information you need. Get the unfinished work done before the pilgrimage, and make your reports before Jaroslav leaves after the trial. Keep a save before reporting if you want to collect the achievement and then go back to a version where Henry didn't tell him everything. Cleric's Pet (https://t.co/JkLoIIBSA9)
Save before telling him about the monastery in particular. He can question how you know what happened inside, and you don't want to end up in jail while you're supposed to be preparing Johanka's defense. Guides disagree about which monk's name to use in that conversation. Monastery-report warning (https://t.co/cbxGK86NlV)
Check everything before you start
These are the things to go back over before telling Jaroslav you're ready:
- Ask Nicodemus, Adela, Guta, Pavel and Sebastian about testifying. Don't assume talking to them earlier has already covered it.
- Talk to Fabian about the accusations.
- Question the bailiff without bribing him, then get Katra to admit what she did.
- Get access to the jail, visit Johanka, report her refusal to Nicodemus, and get the die from Matthias.
- Return to Johanka with the die and finish the conversation about how she'll speak at the trial.
- Read the manuscript.
- Finish any Cleric's Pet reports you're making.
- Get Henry's clothes and Speech ready, and keep a separate save immediately before the trial.
If you're using a Bard potion, take it close to the conversation where you need it. The Speech boost is temporary, so drinking it before you spend ages running around gathering witnesses wastes it. Bard potion (https://t.co/t8G02yiWjK)
