Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Story spoilers below. Uncharted is another series that I played through, and Drake’s Fortune is where that whole thing starts. Nathan Drake, Elena Fisher and Sully, chasing El Dorado and getting themselves into a situation that turns out to be a whole lot bigger than finding some treasure. It has been a while since I played these, so some of this is from memory and some of it I went back and researched. But one of the things I wanted to talk about was Nathan and Elena. She starts out as the journalist documenting his expedition. She has her own reasons for being there, and she doesn't just stand around waiting for him to explain everything. Their relationship is one of the things I liked about the series, especially knowing the direction it eventually takes. The first game also gives you Sully, who is a huge part of Nathan's life. There is a lot of history between those two before you ever pick up the controller. Having him there makes Nathan feel like somebody with a life outside the adventure you're playing. Most of the game takes place around that island, with the jungle, the ruined fortress and the abandoned German submarine base. You spend a lot of time climbing through these places, fighting your way across them and trying to work out what happened there. Then the descendants turn up and the whole thing gets a lot stranger. El Dorado being a cursed object instead of the city everybody imagined gives the treasure hunt a different direction. Everybody is chasing this thing, and getting it turns out to be about the last thing they should want. This is the starting point for the series. You can see the climbing, shooting, puzzles and character dynamics that the later games keep building on. And if you're going back through it for trophies, check which version you're playing. The original PS3 release and the Nathan Drake Collection remaster have different trophy lists. The remaster adds challenges, including speed runs and Brutal difficulty, that aren't part of the original list.
