Gears 5 — base-game achievement guide Updated terminology matters: PvE classes and character appearances are now separate. Equipping a Kait skin is not the same as leveling Infiltrator. This section covers the original 68; Operations, Campaign Update and Hivebusters are separate. Online achievement tracking and matchmaking can vary. These are researched methods, not a claim that every playlist was personally tested today. Campaign progression The following are story checkpoints. Complete the listed sequence and let the game save; you do not need a special kill trick beyond the scripted objective. 1. My Body is Ready: Finish Boot Camp, available separately from the campaign. 2. Not There to Buy a Timeshare: Finish the rocket-launch mission. 3. And… He’s All Yours: Receive the upgraded Jack. 4. Now I Gotta Get Up Again: Reach Carmine’s plaza reinforcement objective. 5. A Mouthful of Boom: Complete the theatre’s Swarmak encounter. 6. It’s Time We Fight Them Together: Finish the Riftworm village defense. 7. Jameson Shipping Depot: Enter New Hope. 8. That Old COG Technology: Open Kadar Valley’s old COG gate. 9. Let’s Get You Some Answers: Complete the communications-tower investigation. 10. We Need the Old Plan: Defeat the Matriarch. Break the ice to freeze her, then attack the exposed back; do not stand in the charge path. 11. Safe and Sound: Secure the satellites. 12. Cutting it Close: Secure the UIR rocket. 13. Throw a Switch, See What Happens: Complete rocket assembly. 14. Let’s Keep Pissin it Off!: Survive the first Kraken battle. 15. Then We Watch Each Other’s Back: Finish placing the Old Ephyra beacons. 16. You Know I Ain’t Going Out Like That: Return to the New Ephyra wall. 17. Discovered the True Threat to Sera: Finish all four acts at any difficulty. 18. All Aboard the Crazy Train!: Finish every chapter on Insane. Your own difficulty must remain Insane; check chapter completion records before replaying a whole act. Use Jack’s protection and control abilities instead of rushing exposed enemies. Co-op partners can play on easier individual settings. 19. Jack of One Trade: Control Jack for an entire act in co-op. Act 4 is a short option. 20. It Takes Three to Make a Thing Go Right: Complete an entire act with three human players, including Jack. Combine with 19 if your group stays together. Jack and combat cleanup Act 4 Chapter 1 is a useful cleanup area because it contains grouped Rejects and all four Hijack targets. 21. Back Atcha: Equip Barrier’s bullet-reflection upgrade, face armed enemies and let reflected fire finish one. Do not shoot the final blow yourself. 22. I Was Born in a Crossfire Hurricane: Send one Flash into a group of at least three enemies. Upgrade its radius if positioning is awkward. 23. Back on Your Feet, Soldier!: Purchase Stim’s revive upgrade. When a teammate is down but alive, activate Stim to revive them. 24. Shock and Awe: Catch six enemies with one Shock Trap. Group the dormant/approaching Rejects in Act 4 Chapter 1 before triggering it. 25. Seraninja: Extend Cloak and execute three enemies during the same activation. Use unaware Rejects rather than fighting three armed enemies openly. 26. A Good Plan, Violently Executed: Accumulate 100 Reject executions. Dormant Reject encounters make safe cleanup; gun kills are not executions. 27. Sire, Interrupted: Kill a Sire while it is carrying a teammate. Act 2 Chapter 5 provides a campaign opportunity; rescue the captive before the Sire finishes its attack. 28. An Enemy Among Us: Get a kill from each Hijacked type: Warden, Stump, Pouncer and Elite Hunter. Act 4 Chapter 1 supplies all four. Remove the Warden’s helmet first, and leave other enemies alive for your converted unit to kill. Merely Hijacking each one is insufficient. 29. Gimme, Gimme, Gimme: Buy Fetch Heavy, then command Jack to retrieve all five types: Tri-Shot, Mulcher, RL-4 Salvo, Buzzkill and Cryo Cannon. Useful stops: Act 2 Chapter 2 Northern Passage/Train Tunnel; Chapter 4 Condor/Abandoned Mine; Chapter 5 cryo section. Picking them up yourself does not count. 30. Jack of All Trades: Find seven ultimate upgrades: Seeker from the Outsider/substation chain; Flash Freeze from the train/derrick chain; Marked for Death and Brawler from the two optional icy Condors; Detonator Implant from the desert scavenger chain; Slayer from Waterworks; Deadly Overload in Act 4 Chapter 1’s Swarmak area. Finish each side-quest chain and collect its reward. 31. JACKed Up!: Buy every ability/passive upgrade, not merely the seven ultimates. Collect components throughout your save and spend them in Jack’s menu. Keep a continuous completion save instead of assuming a chapter-select load retains all purchases. 32. Pennies from Heaven: Loot the optional Condor safes: central eastern frozen lake, far northeast near North Comm Tower, and southeast desert near Train Turntable. Clear the fights and actually take the safe contents. Also loot the wreck on the North Tower route while passing through. 33. Relic Hunter: Carry three relics simultaneously: two long guns plus a relic sidearm. Skiff storage alone is not your equipped inventory. 34. Relics of the Past: Make a kill with each of the seventeen relic weapons, not just collect it. Co-op guests have reported host-only tracking; check your own progress and use a solo/host save if necessary. Record each kill before swapping weapons; the companion relic route provides locations. 35. It’s Not Hoarding if Your Stuff is Cool: Collect all 90 main-campaign objects. These are separate from components, relic guns and Hivebusters collectibles. Use the menu’s missing slots and chapter select for cleanup. Horde 36. Perky’s Revenge!: Buy at least one level in three different personal perks, then get a kill with all three active. 37. Who’s Your Horde Main?: Level any one of Infiltrator, Demolitions, Mechanic, Veteran, Marksman or Jack to 15 by earning PvE class XP. 38. Compulsive Horder: Bring all six of those classes to 15. Rotate classes instead of continuing to level only your favorite. 39. Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop: Complete 50 consecutive Horde waves in one run. Start at wave 1; a final-wave-only match is not this achievement. 40. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: As Jack, carry each required weapon to a Forge and dismantle it. Current Fabricator purchasing is easier than waiting for every enemy drop; have a human teammate buy/drop weapons for Jack. Checklist: Boomshot, Breaker Mace, Buzzkill, Claw, Cryo Cannon, Dropshot, EMBAR, Enforcer, Gnasher, Hammerburst, Lancer, Lancer GL, Retro Lancer, Longshot, Markza, Mulcher, Overkill, RL-4 Salvo, Torque Bow, Tri-Shot. Pistols/grenades are excluded. Progress can span matches. 41. Withdrawal Symptoms: Keep four Power Taps captured, then have the team collect from all four in the same wave interval. Assign players to separate taps so one is not missed. 42. And I’ll Form the Head!: Coordinate a full five-player team. Weaken a boss, count down, activate all five ultimates together, and finish the boss while they overlap. Do not activate a short ability too early. Escape 43. Pass the Soap: Put all three players in the same refuge shower cubicle and pass through together. 44. Who’s Your Escape Main?: Level Tactician, Anchor or Blademaster to 15. 45. Master Escape Artist: Level all three of those classes to 15. Character skins alone do not satisfy the class requirement. 46. Who You Gonna Call? Hivebusters!: Complete five escapes as each of Mac, Lahni and Keegan. Keep a separate five-run count for each appearance. 47. Master of My Domain: Complete one launch hive on every difficulty setting. Use The Hive, The Descent, The Gauntlet or The Mines, and record Beginner through Master separately rather than assuming Master stacks all the lower settings. One consistent launch hive is the simplest checklist. Older guides disagree about first-played-hive tracking; inspect actual progress after each completion. 48. Brought a Knife to a Gun Fight: Escape on Master without any team member firing. A practiced run on The Clock is a documented route; melee and movement are the core approach. Learn doors and safe-room timing on an easier setting first. Do not accidentally fire a sidearm during the qualifying attempt. 49. The Three Musketeers: Coordinate three sustained ultimates and deal 9,000 damage while all three overlap. Arrange a high-health target/group first, then activate together; damage outside the overlap does not meet the condition. 50. On the Razor’s Edge: Get five kills while you are inside venom. On an easier hive, weaken nearby enemies before stepping into the edge, finish them quickly and retreat before the poison kills you. 51. Homegrown Hive: Former community-map achievement. Map Builder was removed and this achievement changed to an automatic award. Sign in on the updated game; do not search for a removed feature. 52. I Made It All By Myself: The second Map Builder auto-award. No publishing a hive is now required; if the award does not appear, allow the service to sync rather than buying anything. Versus, Allies and progression 53. Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship: Finish an Arcade match. Use the actual Arcade mode, not ordinary Team Deathmatch. 54. One Sec, I’ll Be Right Back: After an opponent kills you in Arcade, change character and kill that same opponent. Remember their name rather than killing any replacement target. 55. Where’s My Product Endorsement Deal?: Win five Arcade matches; finish through the results screen. 56. My Place in the Machine: Complete five matches in a Competitive playlist, not merely five custom Versus games. 57. Grind Season: Earn 25 Ranked wins within one Competitive season. Old instructions saying one win every week are outdated; retain the current 25-win target. 58. You’ve Got a Friend in Me: Play with an Xbox friend until the Gears Allies relationship is established. 59. Did We Just Become Best Friends?: Continue with the same ally until relationship level 5. It is individual relationship progress, not your account level or character level. 60. BFFs: Complete Versus with four teammates who are level 5 Allies with you. Build the relationships with a committed group before scheduling the qualifying match; four random high-level accounts are not substitutes. 61. Once More From the Top: Reach player level 100 and select Re-up. Class level 15 is a different progression system. 62. One, Two, Three Sorties: Finish three Tour objectives within one day. Read the current objectives, select appropriate modes/classes, and finish before their daily reset. 63. Corporal Punishment: Earn Tour stars until Corporal. 64. Sergeant at Arms: Continue Tour star progression to Sergeant. 65. LOOTenant: Reach Lieutenant through Tour stars. 66. I’m The Captain Now: Reach Captain through Tour stars. 67. Generally Awesome: Reach General in a Tour. Keep working daily objectives/medals; accountXP alone does not directly substitute for Tour stars. 68. Seriously 5.0 – Chapter 1: Combine Insane campaign;20 Re-ups; General in a Tour; the nine launch classes at 15; and Master completions for seven launch Horde maps and four launch Escape hives. Horde: Asylum, Bunker, District, Exhibit, Icebound, Training Grounds, Vasgar. Escape: The Hive, The Descent, The Gauntlet, The Mines. Classes: the six in Compulsive Horder plus Tactician, Anchor, Blademaster. Maintain a checklist and verify completion tracking; do not confuse this with the much larger Chapter 2 achievement.
