Assassin's Creed Origins is absolutely in my top four games in the series. I played the living hell out of this one. The main game, the expansions, the DLC, the lore behind it. All of it. It was one of those games I could really get absorbed in. This was the start of that newer era of Assassin's Creed for me. The much bigger RPG approach, the different weapons, the abilities, the gear, and this enormous version of Egypt to explore. It changed a lot about how the series played, and I loved what they did with it. Bayek was a huge part of that. His story with Aya starts with a devastating loss in their family and grows into something much bigger. You're following people who have their own grief and their own reasons for going after the people responsible. As that story develops, you start seeing the beginnings of the Hidden Ones and the organization that eventually becomes the Assassin Brotherhood. And the setting was amazing. Egypt during the time of Cleopatra, with the political struggle and Roman involvement happening around Bayek's story, gave me a lot to go and research afterward. There's so much history there before you even get into the fictional side of Assassin's Creed. The expansions gave me more of the parts I wanted to keep playing. The Hidden Ones continues the story of that early brotherhood, while The Curse of the Pharaohs takes Bayek into Thebes and a much more supernatural side of the game. They go in different directions, which gave each of them its own reason to exist. Origins had one of the best stories in the series for me at that point. Between Bayek, Aya, Egypt, and everything that grows out of their story, this is still one of the games that means the most to me.
