Chronicles: Russia tools and practical priorities Russia changes the tools enough that treating every room like China is going to cause problems. Nikolai's rifle and mechanical winch are a big part of how you deal with the environment, and Anastasia doesn't have the same options he does. Use the rifle when a shot is actually needed. It handles distant targets and environmental hazards, but a headshot is obviously the wrong choice during a no-kill challenge. Check what that memory is asking for before treating every enemy in the scope as a target to kill. The winch is the tool to pay attention to. It pulls open routes, moves certain objects and works with electrical systems. Before forcing your way through a watched space, see whether you can affect the lights or the machinery controlling the route. Telephones are useful distractions. A ringing phone in another room can move a guard without bringing him toward Nikolai. Watch where the guard ends up, then cross while that route is actually clear. Smoke gives you breathing room, but don't assume every enemy reacts the same way. Check the guard type and the room before spending it. A route that worked against ordinary soldiers may need a different approach later. Magnetic keys matter around the pressure mines. Look for the relevant guard and inspect the route before crossing. Do not assume an unmarked patch of floor is safe just because it looks empty. Anastasia can use narrow passages and has Helix abilities that change her movement through a level. Don't assume a command does the same thing for both characters. In particular, Nikolai's non-lethal takedown option doesn't mean Anastasia's attack will spare the guard. For upgrades, more smoke capacity and ammunition are practical rewards to work toward before Plus Hard. They give you more options, but they're still limited resources. Pick the awkward section where you need the tool rather than burning it on the first guard you could simply walk around. Eagle Vision becomes especially useful when you're learning patrol coverage. Pause, inspect the next stretch, and decide where you'll hide before moving. The difficult part is often timing the crossing, not finding a more powerful attack. I'd keep the achievement goal visible while choosing the approach. A clean bypass, a knockout and a headshot can all get you past a guard, but they do very different things to the challenge you're trying to finish.
