Chronicles: China tools and upgrades Separate from the achievement and collectible guides. For Chronicles: China, don't expect a big skill tree where you buy a build. A lot of your improvement comes from learning the tools and earning the upgrades tied to your performance in each memory. The whistle is the starting point. Adjust its reach so you draw the guard you actually want, not the whole damn room. Make sure you've already picked where you're going when he moves. Noise darts do a different job. They let you draw attention somewhere away from Shao Jun. If you need a guard looking the other way while you cross, that's often the better choice than bringing him toward you. Firecrackers briefly disable a guard's attention, but the noise matters. Check the guards around him before you throw one. A distracted enemy isn't much help if his friend turns around and sees you standing there. Throwing knives are useful for the environment as well as guards. Look for ropes holding objects up. Cutting one can change the route or create a distraction. If you're doing a clean scoring run, think about who is underneath before dropping anything. Use the rope dart when a climbing assassination is actually the job. If you're trying for a clean bypass, a tempting kill can cost you the rating you wanted. The useful ability is the one that suits that run, not automatically the one that kills fastest. Watch the vision cones and use the depth of the level. Some routes move between the foreground and background. Don't assume every problem has to be solved by pushing straight along the same ledge. The upgrades worth chasing depend on what's giving you trouble. More tool capacity gives you more options when a section has several guards. A bigger Helix meter helps with the later abilities. Faster climbing and health recovery are useful too, but they won't fix a badly timed crossing. For a few concrete upgrade stops: Sequence 2 improves Eagle Vision, Sequence 6 can improve rope-dart climbing, Sequence 8 has faster lockpicking, and Sequence 10 improves damage. Additional rewards appear in Plus. Check the reward screen against your result before moving on. Helix movement and Helix Kill aren't interchangeable. Use the movement ability to get through a gap in patrol coverage. Helix Kill comes after finishing the story and is for combat. If the goal is a clean stealth score, don't turn it into a fight just because that ability is available. My recommendation would be to learn the whistle and noise dart first, then work on using them together with cover. That gets you further than trying to brute-force every room. Chronicles: China — which memories improve your abilities China's upgrades come from hitting the memory's performance targets. Here's what each memory can give you. The extra Plus rewards are listed separately so you don't spend the first run chasing something that belongs to a later difficulty. | Memory | Regular rewards | Extra Plus reward | |---|---|---| | 1 | More health | — | | 2 | Longer Eagle Vision reach | More throwing knives | | 3 | More health; more firecrackers | Larger Helix meter | | 4 | More knives; longer stuns | More health | | 5 | More noise darts | — | | 6 | Helix Boost; quicker rope climbing | Larger Helix meter | | 7 | More noise darts; quicker healing | — | | 8 | Larger Helix meter; quicker lockpicking | Quicker escape from grabs | | 9 | Larger Helix meter; more health | Quicker healing | | 10 | Stronger damage | — | | 11 | More firecrackers; counterattack damage | Improved Helix Boost | | 12 | Immediate wooden-shield breaking | — | For cleanup, I'd check the reward screen against the ability you're missing rather than replaying random memories. This tells you which memory to return to; the displayed score or time target tells you what you still have to beat. Source: The Metric System's memory-reward reference (https://t.co/bFgaSjBeTW).
