Before I get into the individual Assassin’s Creed Chronicles games, I want to say this: I wasn’t a huge fan of the Chronicles series compared with the main games. They had a totally different feel. China, India, and Russia were smaller, side-scrolling stealth adventures instead of the big worlds I was used to exploring. For me, they weren’t on the same level as the main Assassin’s Creed games. But they weren’t bad. I had fun playing them. I played all three from beginning to end, and for what they were, I think they were pretty good. I just felt like there could have been a lot more. China follows Shao Jun after her connection with Ezio. India follows Arbaaz Mir in the nineteenth century. Russia follows Nikolai Orelov and his involvement with Anastasia Romanov. Those are interesting characters and settings to bring into the series, and the games gave each one a different visual style. The gameplay asks you to think differently too. You’re watching patrols, moving between hiding places, working out routes, and trying to get through sections cleanly. It’s a smaller, more concentrated kind of stealth game, which is probably the fairest way to approach them. I can appreciate what they were doing without putting them alongside my favorites from the main series. I enjoyed them enough to finish all three, and there’s still plenty in each one worth talking about. I just went into them with a different expectation of what an Assassin’s Creed game could be.
