Rogue: tools, crafting and practical progression Rogue takes a lot of what worked in Black Flag and then makes you think about being hunted yourself. You still have swords, firearms and the usual Assassin tools, but Shay's air rifle and the enemies looking for him change the way you move through an area. Use the air rifle for the job in front of you. Sleep ammunition gives you a temporary opening. Berserk ammunition creates a fight. The grenade launcher spreads those effects over a group. Don't use a loud, chaotic solution when you're trying to get through an outpost without being noticed. Capacity isn't the same as effectiveness. A larger pouch means more ammunition. Dart-efficiency upgrades improve the effect, and grenade-efficiency upgrades improve the area covered. If you're working on the five-enemy grenade challenges, getting the group inside the blast matters as much as carrying more grenades. Treat the mask as equipment, not decoration. When enemies use gas, respond with the mask. There is also an achievement specifically tied to successfully countering smoke bombs with it, so simply owning the mask doesn't finish that challenge. Don't charge past the warning signs. Enemy Assassins can hide and ambush you. Look around when you know someone is close. Countering an attack and killing the attacker beforehand aren't the same thing, especially when you're cleaning up the counter-kill achievements. Upgrade health if fights keep going wrong. Then work on capacity for the tools you actually use. I wouldn't tell someone to hunt every animal before they've even worked out which upgrade they need. Check the recipe, collect the required materials, make the improvement and get back to the game. The Morrigan needs its own attention. Front guns, broadsides, mortars, the Puckle gun and burning oil have different jobs. Don't sail around expecting one attack to cover every angle. Look where the enemy is, use the weapon that reaches it, and keep room to move instead of sitting alongside a stronger ship. Rogue rewards knowing your equipment. You don't need to make it overly complicated, but you do need to stop treating every tool and every upgrade as if it does the same thing.
