Discovery is another one I wanted to separate from the main game because the name makes it sound like it might just be a handheld version of Assassin’s Creed II. It isn’t.
It’s a separate Ezio adventure, originally released on Nintendo DS in 2009, with the story taking him to Spain during the Inquisition. The events are set in 1491 and 1492, so we’re still looking at a younger Ezio, not the older man from Revelations.
Instead of the big open cities, this is a side-scrolling game built around running, climbing, fighting and getting through individual missions. Some missions want you moving quickly. Others want you staying out of sight. That changes how you approach it.
That’s what I want to cover with the smaller games too. Where they belong in the release history, whose story they follow and what makes them different. They don’t need to be treated like they’re all the same game just because Assassin’s Creed is on the cover.
