8/8 — Collections, other experiences, and what comes next
Remasters and collections make the release history look even bigger, but most bring existing adventures to another platform or update their presentation.
Liberation HD arrived in January 2014. The Ezio Collection followed in 2016. Rogue Remastered arrived March 20, 2018; ACIII Remastered, including Liberation Remastered, on March 29, 2019; and The Rebel Collection on Switch on December 6, 2019, bringing together Black Flag and Rogue, with Freedom Cry included.
The Ezio Trilogy and Anthology collections appeared in 2012, Heritage Collection in 2013, and The Americas Collection in 2014. The Chronicles Trilogy bundle followed in 2016, collecting China, India, and Russia rather than introducing a fourth adventure.
There were other ways to play too: FreeRunners (2021) is a browser party-platformer, while Escape the Lost Pyramid (2018) and Beyond Medusa’s Gate (2019) are location-based VR escape experiences. Ubisoft also lists Temple of Anubis, though I haven’t verified its original release date. These belong among the supplementary experiences rather than the main story sequels.
Jade, Hexe, and Invictus belong on the upcoming-project side of the list, rather than being mixed in with games already released. I’ll keep those separate until there’s more to cover.
That’s the broad run of Assassin’s Creed. Altaïr, Ezio, Connor, Edward, Shay, Arno, the Fryes, Bayek and Aya, Kassandra, Eivor, Basim, Naoe and Yasuke, with all these smaller stories running alongside them.
I love some of the games more than others, but the series as a whole is something special. From here, I want to go back through it one stretch at a time and talk more about the individual games.
