3/8 — Connor, the Kenways, and the colonial stories Assassin’s Creed III — October 30, 2012 Connor becomes involved in the American Revolution while trying to protect his people and dismantle the colonial Templars. His father, Haytham Kenway, is on the other side of that conflict. This game also concludes Desmond’s main present-day story. Connor is still my favorite character in the series, hands down. Liberation — October 30, 2012 Aveline de Grandpré’s adventure follows slavery, colonial power, and the Templars through eighteenth-century Louisiana. Originally released on Vita, it runs alongside Connor’s time period, and the two cross paths. Black Flag — October 29, 2013 Edward Kenway starts as a pirate chasing money and freedom in the Caribbean. His choices pull him into the Assassin–Templar struggle. He’s Haytham’s father and Connor’s grandfather, so the historical story moves backward through the family. The modern player is now an Abstergo Entertainment employee. Freedom Cry — December 17, 2013 as DLC; February 18, 2014 as a standalone release Adéwalé, Edward’s former quartermaster and now an Assassin, fights slavery in Saint-Domingue. The standalone release tells the same story as the Black Flag expansion. Rogue — November 11, 2014 Shay Cormac’s break with the Assassins lets us see the conflict from the Templar side. Set during the Seven Years’ War, it connects the colonial Brotherhood, the Kenways, and part of Arno’s history in Unity. Smaller releases: ACIII Mobile (2012) adapts Connor’s adventure; Pirates (December 5, 2013) follows Alonzo Batilla in a naval-focused Caribbean story; Memories (August 21, 2014) combines cards and missions across historical periods. ACIII’s Tyranny of King Washington released in three episodes: The Infamy on February 19, 2013; The Betrayal on March 19; The Redemption on April 23. This is the alternate-history story where Connor gets the animal abilities I mentioned before. Black Flag also had the shorter Aveline bonus adventure in 2013.
