1/8 — Assassin’s Creed, from the beginning Assassin’s Creed is an amazing series. Absolutely amazing. I’ve played the main games from the first one through the most recent, and there’s a lot more to this series than just the numbered releases. There are handheld games, mobile versions, smaller side stories, and expansions that add quite a bit to the characters. I wanted to put the whole thing in order before getting into individual games. I’m grouping these into five stretches of the series, following release order rather than the historical order of the stories. These are my groupings, not official era names. Dates generally refer to the original North American console release; some smaller mobile releases only have a reliably documented year or month. THE BEGINNING: ALTAÏR AND THE EZIO YEARS Assassin’s Creed — November 13, 2007 Desmond is held by Abstergo and forced to relive Altaïr’s memories during the Third Crusade. Altaïr has to regain his standing with the Assassins, but his targets gradually expose a much bigger deception. This is where the Animus, Pieces of Eden, and the modern Assassin–Templar conflict come together. Altaïr’s Chronicles — February 5, 2008 A Nintendo DS prequel about Altaïr’s search for the Chalice. It takes place before the original game and fills in another part of his life. Assassin’s Creed II — November 17, 2009 Ezio’s father and brothers are executed after a conspiracy, and his search for the people responsible takes him across Renaissance Italy and into the Brotherhood. Desmond is now working with Lucy, Shaun, and Rebecca, discovering that some of the messages hidden in the past are meant for him. Bloodlines — November 17, 2009 The PSP continuation of Altaïr’s story takes him to Cyprus after the first game. It follows the remaining Templars and develops his relationship with Maria Thorpe. Discovery — November 17, 2009 This Nintendo DS side story sends Ezio to Spain during the years covered by ACII. It deals with Assassins caught up in the Spanish Inquisition. Brotherhood — November 16, 2010 Ezio’s story continues in Rome, where he fights the Borgia and rebuilds the Brotherhood. He’s becoming a leader rather than handling everything alone, while Desmond follows the clues left behind. Revelations — November 15, 2011 An older Ezio searches Constantinople for the keys to Altaïr’s library. Their lives connect through those memories while Desmond struggles inside the Animus. This ends Ezio’s playable trilogy. Desmond’s story continues into ACIII.
