MASS EFFECT 3: SOLDIER, ADEPT, AND ENGINEER ME3 opens every weapon category to every class. The tradeoff is weight: a lighter loadout improves power recharge, while a heavy one slows it. Soldier can build the highest carrying capacity; Adept and Engineer have the lowest potential capacity. Most cooldown-based powers still share a timer within a character, but the combo system is much broader. You prime a target, then use a compatible detonator. Biotic explosions, tech bursts, fire explosions, and cryo explosions all matter. Do not assume every pair of powers will combine, or that every protection type allows every setup. SOLDIER Pros: Excellent weapon flexibility, high carrying capacity, Adrenaline Rush, and several ammo powers. It also participates in combos: ammo effects can prime suitable targets, and Concussive Shot can detonate tech, fire, and cryo setups. The Amplification evolution adds further options. Cons: All classes can now use the same weapon categories, so you are choosing Soldier for its bonuses and combat powers rather than exclusive access. Carrying a huge arsenal still has a recharge cost, and there is less native battlefield control than the specialist classes offer. Choose Soldier if you want gunplay to stay central without ignoring ME3's power-combo system. It is more capable than the idea that Soldier means never using powers. ADEPT Pros: A strong self-contained biotic combo toolkit. Warp followed by Throw is a basic example, while Singularity and Pull control enemies that can be lifted. A light weapon loadout lets you keep setting up and detonating powers at a quick pace. Cons: Shields still interfere with lifting effects, and the normal kit has no Overload. You need to distinguish between enemies you can control and enemies you should damage through combos. Heavy guns in your loadout can undermine the rapid casting that makes the class work so well. Choose Adept if you want frequent biotic attacks and explosions. Do not judge it only by the restrictions that made ME2 Adept more demanding. ENGINEER Pros: Overload is useful against both shields and barriers here, Incinerate handles armor, and the expanded combo system turns tech powers into serious damage tools. Combat Drone and Sentry Turret offer distractions, while Sabotage adds more disruption. Cons: Summons do not replace positioning, and investing in every available tool can spread your points thin. Like Adept, Engineer has a relatively low weight capacity, so a gun-heavy loadout can get in the way of a power-focused build. Choose Engineer if you want tech combos, defense-stripping, and deployable support. You can lean into the constructs or emphasize direct powers instead of treating every Engineer as the same build.
