MASS EFFECT 1: SOLDIER, ADEPT, AND ENGINEER First, an important version difference. In the original ME1, you can fire weapons outside your training, but they come with major handling limitations. Legendary Edition removes those untrained-weapon penalties and lets every class aim every weapon properly. The actual weapon talent trees remain class-specific. ME1 also gives abilities separate cooldowns. You can use several different powers one after another instead of waiting on the shared timer used in ME2. Guns manage heat rather than requiring thermal-clip reloads. SOLDIER Pros: All four weapon talent trees, the only route to heavy armor, and strong durability through talents such as Fitness and its Immunity ability. Straightforward to build around gunfire, with a trained weapon for different ranges. Cons: No native tech or biotic toolkit. You need squadmates for things like Decryption and Electronics, and for the sort of battlefield control that can make a fight much easier. In Legendary Edition, everyone handles guns better, so weapon access alone is less of a selling point. Immunity was also rebalanced into a stronger, shorter defensive burst, so old advice about keeping it running almost continuously does not carry over cleanly. Choose Soldier if you want to concentrate on weapons and let the squad handle the specialist powers. ADEPT Pros: The full biotic toolkit. Lift, Throw, and Singularity can keep enemies from fighting back, Warp weakens them, and Barrier gives you protection. ME1 is particularly generous to biotic crowd control, including against shielded enemies. Cons: Light armor, pistol training as your normal weapon specialization, and no tech skills. Early on, you have to invest before the whole toolkit comes together. Barrier helps, but careless positioning can still get you killed. Choose Adept if controlling the fight sounds more interesting than trading bullets. ENGINEER Pros: A complete tech toolkit. Overload attacks shields, Sabotage disrupts weapons, Damping interrupts enemy abilities, and AI Hacking can turn eligible synthetic enemies against their side. Decryption, Electronics, and healing talents also give the class plenty to do outside direct damage. Cons: Light armor and pistol training, without the Adept's biotic control or Barrier. Hacking is situational, not a universal answer to every enemy. The class rewards knowing which tool solves the problem rather than just rushing in. Choose Engineer if you want to disable enemies and handle the squad's technical work yourself.
