I've written and edited the hell out of book one of the zombie story. It's in its third or fourth draft and its second major set of revisions. It's about 83,000 words, with 42 chapters and two appendices. The appendices were more formal material that was hard to work into the storyline itself. One of my weak points was handling multiple characters on the page at the same time, so I deliberately challenged myself with a big family. I wanted to experiment and get better at keeping all those characters moving in the right direction. There are some things that happen that I'm not going to spoil. In my opinion, it's probably one of the best books I've written to date. I've gone through it carefully, many, many times. I feel like it's ready to publish, but it's important enough to me that I want to give it one final round of edits. I don't expect to change a lot. I had to take a break after putting so much mental energy into it. I still don't fully know what the ending of the whole series will be, but I'm very happy with how the first book turned out. I'm looking forward to seeing what I put together for the remaining books. Silent Mist is another really big one. At one point I considered it my life's work, but I ended up doing a lot more writing than I ever expected. It's still one of my most ambitious projects. It got so big that I had to break the publishing down into waves, otherwise I never would have published it.
