I wanted to revisit Marvel’s Wolverine one more time before I close this topic out for now. It’s one of the games I’ve beaten that I meant to talk about more, and there are still a few guides I want to put together for it. The game got mixed reactions. Some people loved it, some hated it, and a lot of people had things to complain about. Personally, I don’t think it got an entirely fair shake at the beginning. PlayStation had already announced that production of physical discs for new games would end starting in January 2028. There was a lot of frustration around that decision, and some of it was showing up around Wolverine’s marketing. My impression was that the game got caught up in some of that wider frustration with PlayStation. It was also a PS5 exclusive, which was another point of contention. I loved the game. I also think it could have been better. I love Wolverine, and I was hoping for an open-world game. If they had taken an approach similar to Spider-Man, Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2, then built that around Wolverine, I think it could have been my game of the year. There was a direction they could have taken it that I would have enjoyed even more. For what it actually is, though, I still think it’s a really good game. The skill system felt a little lacking to me, but I had a lot of fun with the combat. It was one of the strongest parts of the playthrough. I do agree with the complaints about wanting more combos. When you aren’t using the special abilities, the basic attacks can start feeling like the same few button presses and the same combination over and over. More options there would have added some variety. A lot of the other complaints felt small to me. Updates have addressed a number of bugs and annoyances since release, and I want to cover what actually changed rather than lump every complaint together and pretend they’ve all been fixed. I can agree that a game could have been better and still really enjoy it. That applies to most games. Almost anything could be improved in some way. Wolverine gave me a playthrough I had a great time with, enough that I went back afterward to work toward Platinum. I think the last trophy standing between me and Platinum is the one for collecting all the Material Crates. I’m missing one or two. I know where they are; I just haven’t taken the time to go back and pick them up yet. I’m putting together the trophy guide, the Material Crate locations, the Whisky Bottle locations, and a rundown of the updates since launch. I’ve already posted some thoughts and an update recap before, so I’m checking the older posts rather than blindly repeating them. There are things I would have changed, and I still wish they had gone further with the open-world idea. But I had an amazing time playing it, and I’m glad I did.
