Don't swing, land on a roof, or substitute a web zip midway and expect the “only wings” requirement to survive. For Soar, I would treat the route as a planned flight rather than a desperate straight-line glide. Check the map first, find a useful tunnel connection, and start another attempt if you break the movement condition. A tall starting point makes this much less annoying.
