POST 8: The learning, creative and dedicated-hardware side I wanted this history to go beyond the obvious action games. Spider-Man also turned up in educational adventures, creative software, LCD handhelds and those standalone controllers you plugged directly into a television. I am keeping those separate because a spelling game or a cartoon-making program should not be presented as another full action adventure. Spider-Man Cartoon Maker (1995) Platforms: Windows 3.1. Creative animation software using Spider-Man cartoon characters, backgrounds and sound. Marvel CD-ROM Comics featuring Spider-Man (1995) Platforms: Windows, Macintosh. Interactive narrated comic collection with extras rather than a full action game. This is narrated interactive-comic software, not a conventional action game. Marvel Creativity Center (1997) Platforms: Windows PC, Macintosh. Comic-making software guided by Stan Lee and Spider-Man. Tiger Electronics Spider-Man (1991) Platforms: Dedicated LCD handheld. A standalone electronic handheld, not a Game Boy cartridge. Spider-Man: Revenge of the Spider-Slayers (circa 1994) Platforms: Tiger dedicated LCD handheld. Another standalone Tiger Spider-Man electronic game. The approximate date comes from surviving product records; the game itself is distinct from the Game Boy Spider-Slayers title. Spider-Man & Friends: Secret Missions (2004) Platforms: VTech https://t.co/ScFTPzFNH5, https://t.co/ScFTPzFNH5 Motion (later version). Educational missions with Spider-Man, Spider-Girl and Wolverine. A https://t.co/ScFTPzFNH5 Motion version followed in 2008; regional dates vary. Spider-Man: The Case of the Sinister Speller (2004) Platforms: LeapFrog Leapster. An educational spelling adventure. Spider-Man & Friends II: Doc Ock’s Challenge (2005) Platforms: VTech https://t.co/ScFTPzFNH5. A second https://t.co/ScFTPzFNH5 learning adventure centered on Doc Ock. The Amazing Spider-Man: Countdown to Doom (2006) Platforms: VTech V.Flash / https://t.co/ScFTPzFNH5 Pro. A separate educational action title for VTech’s disc-based system. Language Learning with Spider-Man (2010) Platforms: Computer DVD-ROM. Language-learning software built around Spider-Man material; not a conventional action game. Exact supported operating systems require packaging verification. Marvel Ultimate Spider-Man (InnoTab) (2014) Platforms: VTech InnoTab, InnoTab MAX, InnoTV. Nine learning games plus an e-book, using science and spelling alongside Spider-Man action. InnoTV/MAX release is a later compatible version; original manual dated 2014. Marvel Ultimate Spider-Man (LeapTV) (2014) Platforms: LeapFrog LeapTV. Active-play educational missions that teach phonics and spelling. Spider-Man (JAKKS Plug It In & Play) (2004) Platforms: Dedicated plug-and-play TV controller. A five-game Spider-Man TV unit; later GameKey hardware added extra games. The Amazing Spider-Man in Villain Round-Up (2006) Platforms: JAKKS dedicated plug-and-play TV controller. A separate Spider-Man TV-game unit. Vmigo: The Amazing Spider-Man (2006) Platforms: JAKKS dedicated handheld / TV unit. A separate Spider-Man release in the Vmigo line. Spider-Man Super TV Air Jet (2007) Platforms: Lexibook JG6000SP dedicated TV game. Ride-on inflatable controller with seven built-in games. The Amazing Spider-Man and the Masked Menace (2008/2009) Platforms: JAKKS dedicated plug-and-play TV controller. A later standalone Spider-Man TV-game adventure. Also known as Spider Sense Spider-Man and the Masked Menace. Records put the hardware in 2008 and the US release in 2009. There are more obscure branded toys and browser games than I can confidently turn into a complete release list. I would rather be clear about that than pretend every regional variation has been accounted for.
