POST 3: Spider-Man moves into 3D, and then the movies arrive The next stretch includes the Neversoft game, its sequels, and the first two Raimi movie adaptations. This is also where grouping everything under one title can hide some pretty substantial differences. Spider-Man (2000) Platforms: PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Windows, Mac. Neversoft’s 3D adventure sends Peter after the villains who framed him. Ports followed the original PlayStation release; the Game Boy Color game is separate. Spider-Man (Game Boy Color) (2000) Platforms: Game Boy Color. A separate portable side-scrolling adventure, not a tiny port of the PlayStation game. Spider-Man 2: Enter: Electro (2001) Platforms: PlayStation. The direct PlayStation follow-up to the 2000 game, built around Electro’s plot. Spider-Man 2: The Sinister Six (2001) Platforms: Game Boy Color. A different sequel for Game Boy Color with a six-villain lineup. European title: Spider-Man 2: Enter the Sinister Six. Spider-Man: Mysterio’s Menace (2001) Platforms: Game Boy Advance. A standalone handheld action-platformer with Mysterio at the center. Spider-Man (movie adaptation) (2002) Platforms: PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, Windows, Game Boy Advance. The first Raimi movie adaptation mixes film events with additional villains and missions. The GBA edition is a separately developed side-scroller. Spider-Man 2 (2004) Platforms: PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, Windows, Mac, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, N-Gage. The console edition made freely swinging around Manhattan the centerpiece. The PS2, GameCube and Xbox versions are the open-world game. Windows and Mac received a different, simpler adventure; GBA is a side-scroller; DS uses 2.5D play; N-Gage mixes 2D and 3D stages. The 2005 PSP game is different again. Spider-Man 2 (PSP) (2005) Platforms: PSP. A linear 3D movie adventure, unlike the console open world. That last distinction is worth repeating: the famous open-world Spider-Man 2 and the PSP game are not the same experience.
