POST 2: The rest of the 1990s The 1990s Spider-Man games are a good example of why the full title and the system matter. There are multiple Spider-Man 2s, multiple Sinister Six games, and very different games using the same characters. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 / Spider-Man 2 (1992) Platforms: Game Boy. Handheld follow-up mixes fighting with item-based objectives as Spider-Man tries to clear his name. Spider-Man: Return of the Sinister Six (1992) Platforms: NES, Master System (1993), Game Gear (1993). Six-villain side-scrolling action-platform adventure. Spider-Man and the X-Men in Arcade's Revenge (1992) Platforms: SNES, Genesis / Mega Drive (1993), Game Boy (1993), Game Gear (1994). Spider-Man joins Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm and Gambit against Arcade’s deadly traps. Spider-Man 3: Invasion of the Spider-Slayers (1993) Platforms: Game Boy. The third Game Boy outing, facing robotic Spider-Slayers and other enemies. The Amazing Spider-Man vs. the Kingpin (1993) Platforms: Sega CD / Mega-CD. A substantial CD reworking with animated scenes, more destinations and expanded villain encounters. Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage (1994) Platforms: SNES, Genesis / Mega Drive. A comic-crossover-based beat-em-up starring Spider-Man and Venom. Despite the two leads, this one is single-player. The Amazing Spider-Man: Lethal Foes (1995) Platforms: Super Famicom (Japan only). A separate Japanese action-platformer packed with familiar Spider-Man enemies. It is separate from the Western animated-series game released that same year. Spider-Man / animated-series game (1995) Platforms: SNES, Genesis / Mega Drive. Action-platforming based on the 1990s animated series, with differing stages between console versions. Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety (1995) Platforms: SNES, Genesis / Mega Drive, Windows PC. Spider-Man/Venom beat-em-up follow-up that adds two-player cooperative play. The Amazing Spider-Man: Web of Fire (1996) Platforms: Sega 32X. Spider-Man fights HYDRA with Daredevil support in a late 32X action-platformer. Marvel Comics Spider-Man: The Sinister Six (1996) Platforms: DOS PC. An interactive adventure with Peter Parker conversations, puzzles, branching choices and boss minigames. The movie-game era had not even started yet, and there was already a fairly long list.
