I love Dishonored. It’s a great series, and I love the gameplay. I played Dishonored, Dishonored 2, and Dishonored: Death of the Outsider from beginning to end. But I found myself getting really agitated by the time I was done, and I don’t entirely know why. I ended up with more chaos than I would have liked in my playthroughs, but that was partly my own doing. I wasn’t always in the mood to stealth everybody. Some of them just pissed me off, and I killed people. If I do another playthrough, I’ll probably try going the other way and being more patient about it. Don’t get me wrong. I love these games. I think a lot of it came down to the pacing, and certain parts of the mechanics just started getting infuriating later on. By the end, I was ready to finish. That’s coming from someone who considers himself a big Dishonored fan. Very rarely do I run across a series that does that to me. Most of the time, I can be patient and finish whatever series I’m working through. With this one, I really enjoyed a lot of it, but I was also glad to reach the point where it was over. I don’t think the games were done badly. There were just a few things I would have liked to see handled differently. I’ve been sitting down and putting together what I’m calling “content packs,” for lack of a better term, for older games and series I consider beaten. Some give me a lot more to write about than others. I had quite a few ideas for Children of Morta, which I posted about earlier today. For these older games, I’m focusing on the things I remember well instead of trying to force a huge breakdown of every single one. Dishonored is a classic. It’s a great series with a lot of great content, and I wanted to put a few honest thoughts out there while I’m going back through that list. I loved it. Parts of it frustrated the hell out of me. Both are true.
