2/14 — Children of Morta: Skills & Family Progression 1. WHAT THE DIFFERENT TREES ACTUALLY MEAN There are a few different progression systems here, and mixing them together makes the game sound more complicated than it is. Character skills belong to the character you are building. Family traits are the benefits that character contributes to the wider household. Ben's workshop and Margaret's research are another layer of shared progression. Runes and the other things you find inside a dungeon modify a run. They are not all permanent skill-tree purchases. The important correction: the Story tree's milestones are 4, 8, 14 and 20 SKILL POINTS INVESTED. Earning a level gives you points, but leaving points unspent does not advance that investment bar. The first family benefit therefore does not require choosing that trait as a separate purchase. Invest in useful personal skills and the family milestone activates alongside that progress. In the lists below, T0/T4/T8/T14/T20 mean that tree tier. They do not mean a skill has twenty upgrade ranks. A tier being available also does not make every node in it free: check the connected prerequisite and the next purchase cost on the tree. Older guides often call everything a 'level,' which is where the confusion starts. The mobile publisher documents one skill point per character level and three skill ranks: the initial purchase plus two improvements. That establishes the basic structure, not an exact numerical table for every platform. I am not presenting an unsupported universal cost/value table. New Game+ also changed progression caps. Use your current platform's tooltip for the next-rank damage, percentage, duration and cost rather than treating a launch-era guide as a current stat sheet.
