Solo means you provide your own space, damage, and protection. A ranged character still has to deal with enemies getting close. A melee character needs a way to enter, attack, and leave instead of assuming a larger health bar makes every exchange affordable. In co-op, the useful question is what each player creates for the other. Can one gather or interrupt enemies while the other lands a slower attack? Can a defensive ability give the other person enough time to finish their damage sequence? Are both players moving the fight in compatible directions? One player discussion gives Mark's pull and stun followed by Joey's Smite as a combination. The logic is straightforward: control and grouping create a better target for a heavy attack. It is a practical pairing to try, not an automatic answer to every boss or random talent selection. Other players report John and Linda as a comfortable pair, while some favor Apan and Joey in Trials despite not enjoying them as much in the campaign. Those disagreements are useful. They show how much the mode, available build, and the people controlling the characters can change the result. Talk about item allocation instead of having whoever reaches a drop first make the decision every time. If one person has almost no recovery and the other is already comfortable, another healing option may be more useful on the struggling player. Equally, a damage-focused item may help the whole team more when it fits the person doing most of the reliable damage. Watch positioning together. Don't lead a crowd onto Lucy while she's firing, or pull enemies away just as a partner commits an attack. Avoid both spending defensive tools on a threat that one of them already handled. Small coordination mistakes can make two individually decent builds feel worse together.
