CHILDREN OF MORTA: FAMILY TRIALS Detailed guide thread draft. Six connected long posts. Mechanics spoilers; no campaign ending explained. I wanted to give Family Trials its own breakdown, because somebody coming out of the story can jump into this and wonder what the hell happened to their character. Same game, familiar attacks, very different progression. First, the “endless” description needs a little clarification. Family Trials is something you can keep replaying, but each run has an end. The old roadmap did include an endless mode. The developers reworked that plan into Family Trials, combining it with ideas from planned additional content. What we ended up with is a separate combat mode built around randomized runs through Zyklus. You unlock it by reaching the first Spider boss on the third floor of Story mode. You do not need to defeat that boss. The family and their active abilities are available without repeating the campaign’s individual character unlocks. That doesn't mean a fresh character arrives fully upgraded. You start each run at level one and build during that attempt. Your campaign levels, purchased upgrades, and unlocked family skills do not transfer over as the same finished character build. Learning John’s shield or Lucy’s positioning is useful preparation; expecting the whole campaign progression system to follow you is where things get confusing. There is some longer-term progress through deeds and their starting rewards. So “you lose absolutely everything forever” is also misleading. Think of a run’s talents and items separately from the rewards that improve later starts. Normal, Hard, and Insane offer increasing challenges, with higher difficulties requiring more floors. Start with the mode itself before worrying about proving something on the hardest setting. Learning which choices work together is part of learning Trials.
