Several parts of Joey's Story kit reward dangerous situations. Vengeance improves the next primary attack after taking damage. Iron Will helps when his health is low. The More the Merrier rewards fighting amid a group. Those effects can help recover an encounter, but they shouldn't be interpreted as instructions to let enemies hit him. A sensible build needs a way to survive the situations that activate its bonuses. If you're regularly losing health during every exchange, another damage increase may not solve the problem. Recovery, protection, and better timing can matter more than making the next hit slightly larger. Older guide advice frequently emphasizes healing for Joey because of his close-range style. The useful principle is sound: weigh an item by whether it lets you survive repeated encounters, not only by its damage number. But don't assume any healing effect will make him unkillable. Its trigger, availability, and the kind of incoming damage still matter. In Story, Joey also contributes family bonuses related to Rage. That gives a reason to develop him even when another character is the main one you're taking through a difficult area. Shared progression is part of the campaign's design. Don't mistake that for a Trials recommendation. Story family bonuses and the campaign's skill tree aren't a package you import unchanged into Family Trials. Decide which mode a guide is discussing before copying its advice.
