Children of Morta Character Profile: Mark
Mark is John and Mary's eldest son. His time training as a monk gives him a background in martial arts and meditation, and his approach to combat is much more mobile than the idea of simply standing there punching things might suggest.
This is a collection of his mechanics, player advice, and practical suggestions to try. I'm keeping player preferences separate from facts, because the discussions about Mark show pretty clearly that one person's favorite can be another person's most awkward character.
His primary attacks can carry him toward a target. That connects movement to offense: choosing an enemy also affects where Mark ends up. Before attacking, look beyond the target's health bar. What's beside it? Will moving toward it leave a ranged enemy behind you? Is there a clear way out if the rest of the pack arrives?
His short-range fighting and ability to move between targets can feel very active. The same movement can also create trouble if you're attacking faster than you're assessing the room. If targeting feels wrong, take a step back and reset your angle instead of repeatedly committing from the same position.
A useful early goal is to make each approach intentional. Pick a target, observe where the attack takes you, and leave before the surrounding threats overlap. Once that becomes comfortable, his crowd-control tools give you more ways to organize the fight around it.
