In one Trials discussion, a player describes success pairing Linda with John and combining Inner Rhythm with a gemstone-dependent primary-damage item. Another participant prefers a broader mixture of primary damage, recovery, critical chance, and additional effects. A large theoretical damage increase is less helpful if you can't safely attack. Equally, endless defensive choices may leave dangerous enemies alive longer than necessary. Pay attention to what's happening rather than selecting by category alone.
For practice, try one run where you deliberately stop firing before stamina becomes a problem. Then work on finding short stationary windows without getting greedy. Finally, practice using a stun to relocate instead of automatically spending it on more damage.
