Children of Morta Character Profile: John John is the father of the Bergson household, a swordsman, and your introduction to fighting the Corruption. His equipment has family history behind it: his father's sword and a shield from Ben. That protective role carries through into how he plays. For this breakdown, I'm bringing together his mechanics and advice from other players. The practical suggestions are starting points to try, rather than a claim that I've personally tested every build or that one setup wins every time. His ordinary sword swing covers a wider area than a narrow single-target stab. Holding his shield changes the situation: he can attack behind it, trading that broad sweep for a more focused thrust. Blocking costs stamina, so the shield is a resource you manage. It isn't permission to stand inside every attack until the room empties. That gives you a useful decision before you even start spending points. Are several enemies lined up in front of you, where a sweep can hit them together? Is one enemy about to connect, making a guarded attack sensible? Or has the fight spread around you enough that you should move before attacking again? John can teach that distinction very clearly. If the answer to every problem becomes holding the shield indefinitely, you're leaving a lot of his combat unused. If you forget the shield exists and swing into everything, you're doing the opposite. Learn the transition between those options.
