SCP-157: Mimetic Predator
Object Class: Euclid
SCP-157 is a colony of microscopic predators related to tardigrades. Millions gather into a crawling mass that engulfs and digests small prey.
For something human-sized, it uses telepathy. The colony appears to be something its target wants to eat, wear, or put on their skin. That illusion gets the victim to provide the prolonged contact it needs.
On skin, it produces an anesthetic while digesting the tissue underneath. Swallowing it causes severe poisoning. Boiling, microwaving, or cutting it apart can leave it alive and dangerous.
Different people can see different disguises. One man thought he was washing his hair with shampoo. His wife saw a sandwich consuming his scalp. His resistance to the anesthetic helped alert her to the attack.
Another victim put on what he believed were socks and died after the colony consumed much of his feet and lower legs. Investigators also recovered an unusually large specimen disguised as a couch, slowly crawling toward an apartment door.
The Foundation stores it dry and dormant, then revives specimens with water and food for testing. Staff can't eat, change clothes, or apply anything to their bodies around an active colony. Familiar-looking objects are exactly how it gets close.
