SCP-155: Infinite Speed Computer Object Class: Safe SCP-155 is a modified Cray supercomputer recovered from a destroyed Prometheus Labs facility. Its hardware is old, but it can make time move faster around itself while running a program. The distortion reaches about five meters out. Processing begins slowly, then accelerates until its effective computing power approaches infinity at around eight minutes and fourteen seconds. Jobs that should take months or years become possible in minutes. There's a serious catch. Heat and radiation build up inside that field, then escape when execution ends. A run longer than six minutes leaves the chamber needing decontamination. One researcher submitted a program containing an infinite loop. Staff recognized the problem and attempted an emergency shutdown, but couldn't fully stop it until eight minutes and three seconds had passed. The released energy melted through containment, destroyed an entire wing, and caused eleven casualties. The computer itself suffered only minor damage, including components affected by accelerated aging. Testing was suspended while the Foundation repaired it and reviewed its procedures. Every proposed task now requires triple-checking for non-halting execution. A programming mistake that would normally freeze a computer can destroy the room around this one.
