SCP-148: The "Telekill" Alloy SCP-148 initially looks like something the Foundation could put to good use. It's a metal that interferes with extrasensory, mind-affecting abilities nearby. More metal produces a stronger effect, while distance weakens it. Most of its composition is platinum and iridium, with other elements mixed in. The Foundation recovered its supply from Prometheus Labs, where it was being developed as Telekill Alloy. More material had already reached outside buyers, leaving the Foundation trying to track it down. Early tests looked promising. Then the people regularly working around it started losing their ability to communicate. They struggled to interpret tone, body language and other people's intentions. Their vocabulary deteriorated. After eight weeks of exposure, subjects could become completely mute and unable to understand even nonverbal communication, despite otherwise retaining normal mental capacity. The metal was also getting heavier without increasing in volume. During a cross-test, a small sample suppressed another anomaly's effect while rapidly gaining mass. It then abruptly lost mass, and personnel within sixty meters experienced the other anomaly's effects at a greatly increased rate. That was twelve times the anomaly's normal effective range. After that, contact with mind-affecting anomalies was prohibited. Current containment splits the supply into 120 ingots distributed among suitable facilities, away from other SCPs. Their mass is checked monthly, staff assignments are limited, and psychological evaluations are required. The file also notes that it doesn't appear effective against purely memetic properties. It's still classified Euclid, but its growing mass remains a concern. The early idea of using it to contain other anomalies runs straight into the later experiment: it can suppress an effect and then expose a much wider area to a worse version of it.
